I had the extreme pleasure of meeting the lovely Sarah who is otherwise known as “Pin Up Curl” when she did my hair last November for the Most Marvellous Ball (click here to read all about it)
Based in Derby, I went up to see her on the way to Manchester and she gave me the most beautiful up-do. I was so happy with the end result, and we have stayed in touch ever since.
Recently Sarah started making and selling a range of hair accessories mainly using vintage flowers that she sources. Combs and clips, roses, hyacinths, lilies. You name it, she does it.
Well, I had seen a lovely bespoke piece she did a few weeks back with similar colours to what I needed for one of my Twinwood outfits. I dropped her a message and we started having a chat about it.
I was looking for a relatively large headpiece, to match my orange and red Malibu Tiki dress from Pin Up Girl Clothing. I laid out what I needed and Sarah was right on the job.
The flowers I had seen were a nearly perfect match, although my dress was a little more orange than yellow, So I put it in the capable hands of Sarah and waited to see what she would come up with for me. We discussed using different colour calla lilies and I decided to just leave it in her capable hands.
A few days later I received a message from Sarah saying the flower was ready to be despatched! Well, being an impatient minnie, I couldn’t wait to see it so asked if she had any pictures. Sarah very kindly sent me some pictures through and I was over the moon! I knew it would be even better in person too.
As there was no specific rush (Twinwood isn’t till the end of August) I waited to received the gorgeous parcel to arrive.
When it did, I eagerly tore into it and found the prettiest Hair Flower I think I own.
Looking like fiery petals, the combination of red, yellow and orange was exactly what I needed to match my new dress.
Holding the flower up to the material, I could see just how perfect a fit it was.
I decided to debut both the dress and hair flower that night at a 60th birthday party at the local rock n roll club. Eagerly getting ready I put on the dress, teamed it up with my new Lindybop Gene shoes and my old faithful Glamourbunny barrel bag. I didn’t bother to wear any jewellery as I felt the dress and flower were a powerful enough statement.
I love this dress for some many reasons, but one of the main ones is the separate bolero. I like how I can dress it up or down, and start off out with the jacket over my arm, to be put on when the temperature drops a little and I need something over my shoulders.
I then took the whole outfit to Twinwood and wore it on Bank Holiday Monday. I added a red snood and couple of victory rolls, topped off with my beautiful corsage.
The compliments I got for the whole outfit were just wonderful. I had the most amazing day, dancing in the sun and listening to some fabulous bands. It really was a day, and an outfit to remember!
I used to think the Purple and Green colour combination was my favourite of the 3 Malibu Tiki dresses, however I am starting to think that this one suits my colouring and looks even better!
I had a fabulous night out at the party and Twinwood
and received so many compliments on my outfit. I can already tell it is going to be one that gets an awful lot of wear!
Which colour combination of mine is your favourite? Purple, Blue or Red?
Till next time
