A few weeks ago, out of the blue I was contacted by the lovely Julie from the clothing company Lovedrobe asking if I was interested in reviewing a dress from their amazing selection.

Well, I was so honoured to be contacted by them, and of course responded that I would love to give something a try and share it with all my readers.

Of course, at this time of year there are some amazing dresses out there, full of sparkle and glitter for the festive season, so I decided to go with something that would be perfect for to wear to a party.

Going on to their website, I was stunned to see all the beautiful sparkly offerings. Now came the hard part. Deciding on one particular dress.

Well, that was difficult enough. Short? Long? Colour? Sparkles? Sleeves?

I managed to narrow it down to three specific choices. The Split Maxi, The Embellished Shawl and The Crossover  dresses.

I loved everything about all three, and when I found that the Embellished Shawl wasn’t available in my size, it made it a little simpler.

As I really loved both of the others, I genuinely didn’t mind which one I reviewed and so emailed Julie giving her the two choices (to help with any stock issues)

Julie very kindly advised the dress was on its way, and I eagerly awaited the post van arriving.

Two days later on arrival home from work, there was a parcel there for me. Eagerly opening it up I was immediately hit by the sparkles from the blue Crossover dress.

The dress is quite heavy, this is due to the sequins and beading covering every inch of the dress. The blue is a wonderful dark Navy with swirls and embellishments. Leaves and flowers are the main design of the beadwork.

The rear has a V back with an invisible zip. The crossover front skirt is both flattering yet stylish at the same time.

Now initially I was planning on wearing this dress for New Years Eve. I had got everything planned and then life intruded. Due to family illness and other issues, I was hardly at home over Christmas and when I got round to trying on the dress, it didn’t fit me!

Shining Bright

Contacting the wonderful Julie, I told her of my problems and she couldn’t help enough. She arranged to get a bigger size sent out to me, but unfortunately it wouldn’t be here for New Years Eve. It arrived a couple of days after but thankfully I knew I had a function coming up in the following few weeks and decided I would debut it then.

When I actually wore the dress I felt so comfortable in it, yet extra special too. It really is a spectacular dress and I know I will get a lot of wear out of it, as it just has that Wow factor for me.

The perfect fit

The dress is approximately 41 inches in length, which as I am quite short (5ft4) it comes to around mid calf length on me. Perfect for a classy night out.

Whilst I normally wear a size, as I originally found out, the 26 did not work for me at all. I believe this to be down to two things, well three if we are being specific.

The first is just the size of my chest. Whilst the rest of my body fits in a smaller size, on some style of dresses my breasts just get in the way. Because this is a dress with a fitted body and a high neckline, there is no capacity for them to fit, like they would in a V-neck or crossover bodice.

The second reason is that the material of the dress is whisper-soft chiffon, which as I have already explained is heavily beaded. This means there is no stretch at all, and that does make a difference.

There is however a very handy size guide for each dress and to get the best fit possible, I had to size up to a 30. I would highly recommend checking out the size guide before ordering, as it really does help.

Currently the dress is also in the sale, with the original price of £105, it is a bargain at just £42. For the quality and sequins alone, it is worth every penny.

Sparkle and Shine

Teaming the dress up with some navy and silver slingbacks I already owned from Debenhams, I was ready to sparkle and shine!

I added as vintage diamante hairclip to the side of my Victory rolls and I was all ready to head out.

Since then I have also seen this stunning flower hairpiece on the amazing Pin Up Curl’s Etsy site and knew it was a perfect match for this dress and it somehow fell into my shopping basket; a bargain at only £10.
