A couple of weeks ago as I drove home, I passed a new restaurant in our town. Mu Mu is a burger restaurant with a couple of branches in our area, but I had never had a chance to visit before.
Now I hadn’t seen a long time friend of mine, Jan for quite awhile so I was looking at catching up with her for dinner.
Mentioning it to our joint friends, they all expressed an interest in meeting up, so we decided on a girls night out. Helen, Jan, Zoe and I.
Suggesting giving MuMu a go, we booked a table for 730 pm and all arranged to meet just before hand.
I decided to wear my Pin Up Girl Cherry Skirt, green peasant top and a red turban. Adding a red Viva La Lux brooch and a red bag I was all ready to hit the town.
Going into Mu Mu was a bit surreal. The restaurant is VERY tiny, with lots of little tables and booths. It was also quite noisy. This does add to the atmosphere though.
Mostly this was due to the fact that every seat and table was crowded! It clearly was a very popular place.
Although we arrived a few minutes before our designated time, there were no tables available so we were asked to wait around the corner. After around 10 minutes the manager, Kara came to see us and apologised.
She explained the previous occupants were just paying and they were clearing the booth for us. She told us she would give us a discount for the inconvenience, which I thought was pretty good.
We sat down at the booth, which was very snug for me, being a plus size lady, but my colleagues found it ok.
We had a good perusal of the drinks menu first, and our server told us we could order the two-for-one on cocktails as we had waited for our table. BONUS!
I decided to order a “Paint Pot” which was Vanilla Vodka, Chambord and Cream Soda, Helen went for a Pimp Juice, Vanilla Vodka, Passion Fruit Liqueur and Pineapple Juice.
Zoe wanted a specific cocktail but they were out of one of the ingredients, so the Manageress offered to make her a special Gin based cocktail, and if Zoe didn’t like it, she could have a straight G&T.
Jan went for the Milkshake topped with cream; it looked delicious!
We all had a good nosey at the menu, and although there isn’t a huge range, there is certainly enough there to satisfy pretty much every palate. A choice of 9 beefburgers, 3 chicken burgers and 2 vegetarian options. However where their choice expands is on the sides and fries.
They have a selection of fries they call Chavvy Chips; basically fries topped with something. You can have burger sauce and onion, BBQ sauce, blue cheese sauce, spicy nacho cheese sauce and a couple of really weird ones – Nutella and popping candy or Marmite butter and cheddar cheese.
I decided to go for the Beauty and The Yeast burger which came with Cheddar cheese, smoked bacon, red onion and a Marmite sauce. I opted to go for the Marmite and Cheddar cheese chavvy chips. And I was so glad I did!
Stupidly I forgot to take a picture of my food (just means I will have to go back again) but it was sensational! The fries were just out of this world, and the burger was just perfect.
All of us thoroughly enjoyed our choices and we couldn’t manage dessert.
We sat for a little while, chatting to the Manager Kara, who was just fantastic. She really had the personal touch and was a credit to the restaurant.
Because we had to wait for our pre-booked table, she knocked 10% off the bill for the inconvenience. All told it came to around £65, which for 4 people plus cocktails was a really great price.
However even without the discount, the food was so good that I would happily return and pay full price.
Before we left one of the servers took a group photo for us, which was a lovely way to end the night.
The icing on the cake was when we found out that in the next couple of months they will be offering a delivery service. You can be sure we will be giving that a go as soon as it goes live!
Now, you might think that is the end of my tale, However I was lucky to get another table to dine at Mu Mu with my husband and Baby Bear. I told them how good it was and they wanted to give it a go too.
I went for exactly the same food as last time, He had a dirty Southerner chicken burger and Baby Bear had a halloumi burger (as she is vegetarian)
She also asked for a Snickerdoodle Milkshake, and I really don’t think she knew what she was getting into.
This turned up! Her eyes went as round as saucers. I have to say, she let me have a taste and it was like blended snickers. Absolutely Fabulous!!!
We had to have the obligatory snapchat filter photo before we left, tummies full and smiles on our faces.
I am happy to say that the family had a whale of a time, and I know we will be going again soon!
Till next time
