Through lots of the vintage groups I belong to on Facebook, I have had the privilege to make friends with some wonderful people, both in person and just online.
One of these is the fabulous Ruby Boo who makes a range of fabulous hair flowers and accessories. She sent me a lovely message asking if I would consider reviewing some of her products.
Well, if you know me at all you will know I love a good hair adornment or two. In fact my “flower bowl” where I store all my hair clips has become a veritable Kew Gardens and I literally have enough clips to wear a different one every day for at least a couple of months!
But like dresses, a girl can never have enough and so Ruby Boo said she would pop some in the post to me. Well, time passed and the parcel didn’t materialise. Ruby was perplexed as she had sent it recorded delivery but it just never turned up.
Pretty upset, she sent a second parcel to me again recorded delivery. Six days passed and still there was nothing.
Then a card arrived in the post. There was a delivery waiting at the depot for collection. I drove down the next morning on the way to work, and there indeed was a Ruby Boo parcel. I let her know that I had a parcel, but we just didn’t know which one it would be!
Opening the parcel I was eager to see what had been sent. All the contents were lovingly packed and when I told her what was inside, it turned out that it was actually the first parcel. It had actually taken eleven day to arrive a the depot via recorded delivery! What a joke.
Ruby Boo told me to wait for the second parcel, look at the contents and decided which two items I wanted to keep. Well that was nigh on impossible as they were all lovely.
Two of the items were Christmas based, whilst the other two were mixed floral. I decided to keep the Christmas one from the first parcel and a floral one from the second parcel.
The Christmas design featured a fabulous sparkly silver fern section, red poinsettias and a lovely sparkly white and red candy cane.
The floral arrangement was very Autumnal with blue, orange, pink and purple flowers with autumnal leaves.
Both were stunning, and I sadly packed up the other two I hadn’t chosen and shipped them back off to Ruby Boo.
I also loved the card that Ruby Boo had put inside the second parcel. It was shaped like a book and had a very vintage design to it. It was called “The Lady of the the Hundred Dresses”. Perfectly Apt I thought.
Of course as we are now heading into the Festive Season, I have had a chance to wear the Candy Cane flower on several occasions. The silver fern at the top is quite flexible and I have taken to bending it slightly to mirror the shape of my head. It almost comes across as more of a “caplet” than a hair flower and it also makes it exceedingly comfortable to wear. At £18.00 plus post, this is exceedingly affordable!
The Autumnal flower is so very pretty and takes the form of a corsage of flowers with some leaves to the top. Both pieces are held in the hair by crocodile clips that are secured onto a piece of felt. This currently retails for £15.00 with postage at £3.80
So, where did Ruby Boo start out? Well it is the brainchild of Sharon.
Having a background in costume and fashion lead her to being costume supervisor at Madame Tussaud’s for 13 years, until her daughter came along.
Rubyboomakes was invented as an activity between her and her daughter and started with some felt brooches for a few local pop up events, which were an overwhelming success. Over the past three years the designs have progressed and improved and now she makes items she loves AND custom items too.
I have loved wearing these items and can attest to the fantastic designs and quality of the items RubyBoo makes. I am sure these won’t be the last items of hers I have.
What do you think to my stunning headwear?
Till next time,
