Regular readers may recall a trip to the Enfield Vintage Pageant that I took last May so I could do a little catwalk modelling for the amazing Tricia of Hotties Vintage.
The hubby and I went and had a total ball. It was such good fun and I managed to get a couple of goodies whilst I was there.
So, when Tricia asked me if I would like to be involved again this year, I had to say yes!
Rounding up the Mother in Law, Hubby and Theodorable, we set off early on Bank Holiday Monday.
I have to say, it wasn’t looking too promising. The Weekend was supposed to have been hot and sunny, but we had experienced Thunder, Lightning and parts of our local area had flooded!
Anyway we doggedly travelled on, arriving at Enfield around 1130. Tricia came to meet us, so of course Theodore went a little mental with the excitement of meeting someone new.
Tricia mentioned that the catwalk show would be around 1330, so we had a little time to kill.
Inside the Vintage Village was a Tea Room so we all decamped to there for a good old brew.
Whilst we drank our tea, Tricia went to check in on the hairstyling team, The House of Drewvid.
Ensconced in a large tent, it was all decorated in vintage style with lamps, rugs, pictures and more.
I was introduced to Andrew who said he would give me a glamorous ‘do’
Now, bearing in mind I only have a shortish bob which is in pretty poor condition, I genuinely didn’t know what he would be able to come up with.
I literally put myself in his hands and told him to do as he pleased.
He started off by putting my hair in heated rollers. I was so surprised to see just how much hair I had, as it felt like it had not grown at all in several months.
Andrew asked if I would like him to trim up my Betty Bangs which I was eager to have happen, so again I just let him do his thing.
The salon was solidly busy the whole time I was in there. I couldn’t wait to see just what he was able to do with my sad hair.
However I genuinely never thought he would make it look just that good!
Putting in a series of hot rollers, once ready and removed, my hair was put into marcel waves and the fringe trim was done.
I literally loved the end results.
Theodore, of course wandered into the salon half way through and made himself welcome. Plopping down on the floor, he had people queuing up to stroke him and he literally took over half the floor space, stretching out and seeking what little shade he could find.
We had a little time to kill before the show, so we walked around all the stalls and headed for a spot of food. Now, Hubby and mum settled for a HUGE Cornish Pasty, whereas I headed to the Cheese on Toast stall which I had tried the previous year. Hot, tasty and a decent price, I was sated and had a big smile on my face.
Theodore however was having a whale of a time. Every person he walked past had a big smile on their face and a huge proportion of them had to stop and give him some love. He, of course sat or stood there basking in all the adulation, like the diva he is!
Heading back to the Vintage Village, it was time to get my frock on.
This year I was given a lovely red Lindybop dress and told to look at all the different sellers to see what else I could get to go with it.
Approaching a millinery stall I was entranced by some of the creations by Miss Ava’s Millinery. Immediately I was drawn to a teardrop shaped headpiece with a Queen of Hearts playing card on it.
Talking to the lovely owner, it was decided that this was the piece for me to wear. It really complimented the dress and also the hairstyle I had been given by Andrew.
Then it was time. Four ladies, wearing a variety of clothing, accessories and headwear strutted our stuff on the catwalk. The crowd were really lovely and receptive and it was an honour to have been asked to walk for the different companies.
All too soon it was time to change back into my normal clothing. Popping outside of the vintage village, I found Mum and the hubby sitting by the rock and roll stage listening to a live band.
Well, I just couldn’t resist could I?
I had a little stroll and in fact was asked to show a couple of ladies the stroll that I knew.
It is my understanding that strolls are a bit like regional accents. Different depending where you are. The Enfield stroll was about 50% the same as the stroll I was taught, but the end was totally different.
I showed the ladies two different versions of the stroll and hopefully they will go on to use them at their local dances!
I was then really fortunate to be asked by a lovely gentleman called Joe to Jive. I explained it had been a couple of years since I last jived and that I was overweight and out of shape.
He led me onto the dance floor saying that any time I wanted to stop would be absolutely fine.
To be honest, I managed to get through at least half of the dance before I needed to stop. Wearing a corset, dancing and trying to breathe really aren’t conducive.
Joe was so lovely and told me that I needed to start dancing again as I was a lovely light dancer and it would be a shame to lose the ability.
We made a vow to each other, that the next Enfield pageant would be our reunion, and it would give us both a year to get fitter and build up the stamina needed to last through full dances.
To be honest, I am totally up for that challenge as I LOVE to dance and miss going every week.
I just need to make more time and space in my diary for it!
Did you attend the Enfield Pageant? What did you think?
Where you one of Theodore’s admirers?
Till next time,
