Saturday rolled around far too early as I had woken up at 5am and couldn’t get back to sleep. This was equally good and bad as I was able to think about what I was wearing yet bad as my anxiety was really ramping up.

So, why was it so bad? Simply because I had recommended the Weekend to several friends and family and they had all spent a fair chunk of money on clothing, tickets, accommodation, and sundry items.

My Blogger wifey Boo had also driven quite a way and I was really concerned this wasn’t going to be her ‘thing’. Whilst I know I am not responsible for anyone else’s happiness, my brain would not shut off.

She had also asked me to do a vintage style in her hair for the day. Knowing she has really long hair (and I’m not a very good hairdresser) I was a bit nervous. I knew it would be a bit tricky to get some vintage rolls in, however eventually I was able roll both sides and used a lovely crocheted snood to put the rest of her hair in. PHEW!

I put on the first of my made to measure dresses by Betty Blue Vintage. A beautiful spring green and cream chiffon affair, teamed up with an original vintage velvet hat, vintage bag and a pair of wonderful Johnsons shoes which matched perfectly.  I made sure I had my made to measure Rock and Roll Petticoat one too, I was all set!

Little Chick was able to help me with my makeup and soon we were all ready to hit the field to catch the 10am bus over to the festival site. From the farm this literally is a mile, but easier to bus it than walk across the farm track.

My sister, Little Chick, Maxine, Gary and I all piled onto the bus. We were in high spirits and may have had a pullalong trolley full of booze and folding chairs!

We got our wristbands and headed to the main arena first. The planning behind this? To get a good location for the chairs over the weekend. Once put into place, they stay there until the end of the festival. Ideal really.

As the day was still early we all had a wander around,  looking at the stalls and items to buy. There was so many goodies that I could have splashed the cash on however I wanted to pace myself. In fact the only purchase I made was a vintage fan that cost me £6 from my old friend Micky and TimbombVintage. A total necessity with the sunny weather we were having.

We went back to the main arena to start listening to the bands. The sun was shining and the alcohol was flowing.

Of course along with alcohol comes shenanigans and we took lots of silly photo’s and videos. I taught the family to social foxtrot and think we tried a stroll or two….. But my recollection is a little foggy!

Half way through the day we had the most monumental short downpour but it still didn’t stop us. Gary was absolutely ringing wet; his t-shirt was sodden and the rain was dripping off his nose. But we carried on dancing, the sun came out and we dried off in a short time so it didn’t even dampen our spirits.

The drink was still flowing (our first mistake) and we were literally loving it. What more can you ask for? Live music, the sun, great company and lots of alcoholic beverages.

We danced and sang our way through the Glenn Miller Orchestra, and enjoyed the Cambs and Beds Lindyhop experience. The Swing Ninjas were excellent and life was good

Eventually we had to decide on getting back to the farm to get ready for a  long evening. We hopped on the 4pm bus and got back to the farm. Sadly that was when Boo had to leave us for her long drive home. I was just really pleased that she had enjoyed the day with us.

Maxine and I decided to have a bit of a nap which ended up with all of us catching a few winks of sleep. We did get back up though and proceeded to get ready for the night ahead.

I showered and re did my makeup and we went back to the bus for the fun ahead.

Velvet Delight

Both the hubby and Mum in law would be arriving at the farm later that night to spend the rest of the weekend with us which was also something else to look forward to.

The five of us hit the Colonial Club as we all wanted to see some of the evenings acts AND my favourites, Dusty Limits and then Champagne Charlie and the Bubbly boys, before ending the night at the Cockney Sing-a-long with Tom Carradine at midnight.

We were really lucky and had managed to get a table right at the front of the club and set ourselves up for the night. Our friend Lucy joined us and it wasn’t too long before the amazing Andy, his wife Annette and their daughter Emily and her boyfriend Jamie joined us.

When they first arrived, I got up to meet them and bring them down to the table. Before I could do so, they all smiled at me and said they have got a present for me. A present? I just didn’t understand why.

They went on to say that they were so disappointed I didn’t get to the final 10 of Miss Twinwood and that I would always be their vintage queen. They gave me a gift bag and went on to say that when they had their vintage car they had shown in at Twinwood for a couple of years. They had won two awards and they wanted to have one!

Obviously this was something precious to them and could only be issued for winning the classic car category. I was just blown away.

So what did I do?

Well,I sobbed like a baby of course!

I was totally and utterly moved. How wonderful a thing for them to do and it literally meant the world to me. I still can’t believe they did that for me.

Anyway after my emotional moment, I took Andy and family down to the front and we settled in for the Cabaret. And what a show it was.

Natty Congeroo and and the flames of Rhythm were outstanding. He reminded us of a young Cab Calloway and certainly got the crowd going. In between acts you had the always sublime Dusty Limits doing his slightly naughty and very funny act; the perfect compere.

Champagne Charlie and the Bubbly Boys came on and everyone was on their feet dancing. He really does the most amazing show. I literally enjoy watching him and then seeing all the Twinwooders dancing the most amazing routines including lindyhop, ballroom and more.

By this point we were all more than a little drunk. We were sloshed, to say it politely. This is when Caragh decided to get up and con a most wonderful man to dance with me. The only thing I can say was that I managed to stay on my feet, I didn’t knock anyone over with my considerable bottom and I sang along to the song at the same time.

As for grace? Well I think I was about as graceful as a Hippopotamus with 4 broken legs. It was not my finest hour and the gentleman whose name I never got, was the perfect gentleman as he had to squire me around the floor.

Well, I will let you judge…

Sadly it had all been too much for Maxine so Gary and Angela decided to get 10pm bus back to the farm, leaving Little Chick and I to enjoy the rest of the night and the Cockney sign-a-long.

Now logic says we should have probably gone home then. But we didn’t.

Little Chick was eager to stay for the sing-a-long and as I had never done it before, so was I!

Andy and Family left us before then and we were waiting for it to get to midnight. Little Chick went outside for a cigarette and promptly disappeared. She had decided she had had enough and text to say she was on the midnight bus. That left just me and a 20 minute walk across the dark fields alone.

Well, there was nothing else that could be done. That was the last bus and I had no other choices. So what did I do? Carried on partying.

My fabulous mates, Dickie and Jenny arrived for the sing-a-long and it was packed in the Club. It used to be held in the Nags Head pub but as it had become so popular, there was just not enough room for everyone who wanted to take part in it. The Colonial Club was a much better option and more than ever attended.

We sang our throats raw, dancing and laughing. Dickie and I had a twirl on the floor and I sensibly changed to Coke as I knew I had drunk enough Vodka to sink a battleship.

I was literally living my best life. I couldn’t remember the last time I had been enjoying myself so much. The songs took me back to my childhood with my Auntie Gwen and I knew them all. It literally was a barrel of laughs.

There were many other vintage friends there and during the course of the sing-a-long they were all a bit concerned about me. Of course I was very drunk and had that walk across the fields to make. They took the decision to try and contact the hubby so he could walk up and get me so I wasn’t alone.

Chatting with Dickie, I was told the he was outside the club. I was amazed as I didn’t think he would be onsite that night.

Running out all excitedly I saw Hubby and my sister in law with a security guard. I was a bit confused as I couldn’t understand what was going on. They had come to take me home across the fields.

I was mortified.
