As many of my regular readers know, I always go to a trade show in London called Londonedge. Held every February and September it showcases the up and coming trends, especially the vintage style dresses that I love.
This time was a little different though…
I met someone who just blew me away. Carôllèe from Brazen Canary.
Now many of you will know I am a real hat queen. I wear one at the drop of a hat, no pun intended. I would literally wear one every single day if I could.
I have worn them to events, to the pub, to the supermarket and to work. I tried to convince my boss to let me wear one as part of my uniform but got turned down. I just can’t resist a good hat.
Some of mine date back to the 30’s and 40’s. Some are much younger, but I don’t really care about age. If I like it, I will buy it and wear it.
I have imported hats from the USA, France, Germany and all over the UK. I literally have boxes and boxes in my spare room and yet I still look for more.
So, when I stumbled upon the Brazen Canary stall, it was literally my paradise on earth.
Carôllèe literally had designed the hats of my dreams; and she encouraged me to try them all on.
Well I would have been foolish to refuse!
I tried on dozens of her creations and loved every single one. I have to admit, hats either suit you or they just don’t. I would like to think that a hat does suit me and hence why I wear so many.
Carôllèe was amazed that all of her creations looked so good on me. As for me? I was literally in my element and couldn’t wait to put each one on.
I went from Jungle inspired, to Grecian seas, to Eliza Doolittle. Beads and baubles ranged to simple Panamas. A huge peacock strewn creation was the highlight of my hat dreams.
I literally didn’t want to stop wearing them. Beautifully designed and made, I was astounded how easy they were to wear.
Later on that evening I was able to catch up with Carôllèe again and she had a stunning yellow creation that people were trying on. Whilst it didn’t go with my outfit, it was such fun to wear.
I know that Carôllèe puts her heart and soul into every single items she makes. She draws upon her own lifes experiences and travel for inspiration, and boy has she got some imagination.
For me, my absolute favourite hat had to be the turquoise hat that conjures up images of the Aegean sea. Just Sublime.
Now, I just need to start saving my pennies so I can own one of her creations for myself. I even have the perfect event for it, which is on my 50 things to do before I am 50 list!
Royal Ascot Ladies Day anyone?
Till next time,
SPSG xx
