Rocked my World

Today I actually had a day off work. It wasn’t for pleasure however, but to take the hubby to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge to see a consultant about a serious eye issue he has.

Knowing that he would not be able to drive himself home after the appointment, I took the time off to travel there with him. As the appointment wasn’t until 1345, we decided we would stop somewhere for lunch beforehand.

Sitting in the passenger seat I used my old friend Google to ask what restaurants were near to the hospital. It recommended a fair few, so I looked at a lot of different menus and nothing really floated my boat. Several were chain restaurants that we had already tried; Cafe Rouge, Zizzi, Prezzo, Bella Italia etc so we immediately discounted those as we wanted to try somewhere different.

Then I found a link to a restaurant called Rockers, which looked to be a burger joint, with the normal kind of American diner food; ribs, hot dogs, steaks, onion rings, waffles etc.

Well, that sounded a pretty good place to try so I reset the sat-nav to get us there.

Upon arrival at the Cambridge Leisure Park we found a whole heap of other restaurants there, including Nando’s and one of my favourites, Five Guys.

Now this was where I nearly missed out, as when we were walking down through the multi-storey car park, I was pretty adamant that I was going to have Five Guys.

However as we arrived at Rockers first, I had a peek inside and immediately wanted to eat in there. As it was lunchtime, it wasn’t massively busy so we hoped we would get our food relatively quickly so we could be on time for the hospital appointment.

Being greeted by a staff member called George, he invited us to sit at a table of our choice. It posed a good omen when I picked one and noticed it was right by a picture of my favourite artist, Prince.

Any one for a drink?

Sadly I was driving so opted for a sparkling water. The husband had lemonade.

George took our order very quickly and then brought out the drinks. Whilst waiting for our food, we were transfixed at all the rock memorabilia around the room; gold discs, guitars, leather jackets etc. It was a music lovers paradise.

Gold Discs Galore

I was particularly envious of the black leather Guns N Roses cross jacket and a Purple Rain disc. Both were stunning and I would have loved to be the owner of them.

I would SO love to own this.

What I haven’t mentioned on my blog is that I am trialling a new diet due to issues with Poly-cystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and the doctor had suggested going carbohydrate free to see if this would make a difference. This means no bread, pasta, rice, potatoes etc so on the face of it a burger joint seemed like a bad idea.

However I was allowed as much meat, cheese, bacon and salads as I wanted, so I definitely could work with the menu.

Lots of Variety

Eventually I decided on the Juicy Lucy Melt Burger, no fries, no bun (which you can swap out for salad) and I added some barbacoa pulled beef on top for an extra pound. I got some coleslaw and onions rings to share.

The burger had melted cheddar cheese inside the meat and was topped with lettuce, onion, tomato, mayo, salsa and Monterey Jack cheese.

The hubby had gone for the Barbacoa Burger; Burger patty topped with barbacoa pulled beef, cheddar cheese, jalapeños, pickled red onion and habanero mayo. He added sweet potato fries and we were all set.

All around were large TV screens playing Rock Videos; everything from Aerosmith to Nirvana, Bruce Springsteen to AC/DC. It took me back to my rocking teenage years and I was literally loving it.

AC/DC Time

Within 15 minutes the food arrived and it was good. REALLY good. My burger was oozing with cheddar, and the barbacoa beef was divine.

The Barbacoa – Juicy, tasty and melt in the mouth

Although I didn’t have fries, the burger, salad and coleslaw literally filled me right up and even though I had been salivating at the thought of a maple syrup waffle (totally against the diet) I couldn’t have eaten another bite.

This was Divine!

We asked George for the bill and engaged him in small conversation. I really wanted to know if Rockers was a chain as I would have loved to find one a little closer to home. George went on to say that it was just the one restaurant that he and another gentleman jointly owned.

You could see he took great pride in the place. It was evident in his face and his voice and I told him that we had loved everything about Rockers.

The whole bill came to just over £39 and I have to say it was worth every penny.

Great Value

Without a lie, my burger was probably one of the best burgers I had ever had. There are a few others that sounded great including the Mediterranean burger (tomato, rocket, sun-dried peppers, garlic mayo, salsa, balsamic glaze, and mozzarella cheese) and the Chilli Burger ( beef chilli con carne, jalapeños, Cheddar cheese, red onion, mayo, and hot habanero sauce) and I will definitely be choosing one of those next time.

As I was driving this time, I couldn’t take advantage of the cocktails and as they have my favourite drink, Long Island Ice Tea it would be rude not to give it a go. So that means we have to go back again.

And again!

Have you been to Rockers? I would love to hear your views.

Till next time,

SPSG xx
