Just before I went to Germany I had a lovely email from a man called Paul on behalf of Pink Clove. He was interested in whether I would like to collaborate with the brand. Well as they have some amazing fashion, I said of course!
During our emailing I mentioned I was off to Stuttgart and that the Maia winter coat would probably look great and I could get some fantastic shots of it whilst I was abroad.
Paul worked his magic and two days later a parcel arrived, just in time to fly off.
Unfortunately I had been sent the wrong coat, the Remi Black Faux Fur jacket and as much as I loved the one I had received, it didn’t fit me very well. This was due to it being a short fur jacket that didn’t want to go around my large hips very well.
Paul was brilliant. I told him what happened and he arranged for the coat to go back and we decided to re-order something once I got back from my travels.
So, with a fresh eye and nothing much in mind I set about looking at the fashion offerings on the website. Although as many of you know, my heart belongs to vintage styling however once in a while I like to try something new.
Having spent many years wearing ‘blending in’ clothes, I now prefer prints and patterns that stand out. I know for many plus size ladies there is still a stigma of having tight clothing over a belly that sticks out.
Some people wear what they want, defying the critics and the harsh comments of the haters. Me, I am not quite so sure yet. Whilst my visible belly outline is not going away much, the idea of encasing it in tight material still freaks me out a little. The VBO worries me.
But that was exactly why I had chosen the Plus Aleena V neck Maxi Dress
The dress has a background colour of white with a gold and black abstract design. Within the gold shapes are sections of black, zebra print and leopard print.
Now this is where I am out of my comfort zone again. I have always HATED animal prints. They immediately make me think of Pat Butcher and Bet Lynch.
I literally would rather wear anything than animal print.
However I really loved the style and pattern of this dress. It just made me think of rococo furniture; you know Louis 14th and 15th kinda stuff. It was the shapes and the gold framing.
Anyway, I sent Paul a message and asked for the Aleena dress and again a couple of days passed and it arrived.
The dress felt like it was made with great quality material. Beautifully printed and with a fair bit of stretch, I was excited to try it on.
What I had failed to notice on the website was just how low cut it was. Now as a plus size woman with a mahoosive pair of boobs, this became somewhat of a problem.
Being an N cup bra, most of my bras are very high cut, no plunge or push up going on here. I wore the lowest cut bra I own, the Tanya by Ewa Michalak, named after me!
Following a visit to Poland in 2015 and a photo shoot, She had named the bra after me and it is one of my favourite bras ever. With the harness straps I thought it might work.
How wrong could I have been?
As you can see this dress is so low cut you could see all of my bra, and even my abdomen below it.
I know there are a lot of sexy plus size ladies out there that would be happy to wear it like that. Me, well at 44 I think I am a little too old to be rocking that look, however I just used a brooch to pin the V neck into a slightly more decent look.
I also had a go at wearing it with a white camisole which I loved!
I would prefer a black camisole so I will be sourcing one of those as this dress is epic to wear.
Of course the love tart that is my baby boy, Theodore had to get in on the act. As soon as he sees a camera, he has to pose and photo bomb you. He literally lives for the click of the camera!
He seemed to like the dress too as he was happy to be photographed next to it. And as well he should.
It is comfortable, light, beautiful in design and a real joy to have on.
I was fortunate to get a lot of compliments when I wore it and it made me feel really good to wear it.
At the moment it is even in the sale, so you too could own this gorgeous dress for just £12!!!! What a bargain and something that would look great out at the Christmas parties that are coming up shortly.
As for that bulging tummy? I never thought about it once whilst wearing this lovely dress. I felt confident and didn’t worry about any part of me.
This is a great feeling to have. Not worrying about your tummy, bingo wings, bottom or thighs is an empowering feeling.
This dress made me feel fierce and empowered. I know I will get a lot of wear out of it.
Do you own this dress? How do you feel when you wear it?
Till next time,
