A email arrived into my inbox a couple of weeks ago from a very lovely lady called Jenny. She was making contact from falseeyelashes.co.uk to see if I would be interested in trying out their recently launched range of Mink eyelashes.
Now I love a good set of eyelashes. But there is a big problem; I am NOT very good at putting them on. Usually I manage to get them on, they stick in my eyes all night and I am counting down the seconds to rip them off.
Before my recent trip to Germany where I was taking part in a photo-shoot, I decided to go to my local salon and get some semi-permanent lashes put on, in order to stop this problem.
I had them put on the afternoon before my flight to Stuttgart. They looked amazing and I was really pleased with the look.
But that was before I had to physically live with them. I literally hated them so much and wanted to claw my own eyes out.
They prickled. They annoyed me. It felt like I had a thick black shelf over my eyes obstructing everything. I was in a bit of a pickle.
However, I had been warned not to pull them off as I would probably pull out my own lashes too, leaving me with a big problem. When advised of this, I hadn’t planned on doing that anyway, so it all had seemed good.
How wrong could I be. I literally had to stop myself from tugging at them. I just wanted to get back to the salon as soon as possible and get them taken off!
Now, don’t get me wrong. This was no fault or problem with the application or anything the salon had done. In fact they had done a spectacular job, I just hated the way they felt.
So, fast forward to the lovely email offering the chance to try some mink lashes. I had never given them a go before; I usually just grabbed a pack of Eyelure lashes from Boots when I needed some.
This was actually a chance to try something that could make my eyelashes really stand out.
I thanked Jenny for the kind offer and she arranged to send me some to try.
A few days later I had a lovely package in the post from her. Inside was a selection of items; A rose gold applicator, 2 packs of Mink eyelashes and some Invogue lash glue.
Also was a lovely little note from her and a discount code for 10% off of purchases made. Use LASH10 with your purchases!
I had a few days until I was going to be seeing Dita Von Teese in London. I had been waiting several months to see “The Art of the Teese” and I was planning to get all glammed up!
Originally I had bought a couple of long sequinned dresses which for various reasons looked terrible or were so uncomfortable that I knew I couldn’t wear them.
Time was passing and I was panicking. And then I had a brainwave.
I had a beautiful blue velvet dress with gemstones on the shoulders. I had worn it once for a vintage charity photo-shoot but hadn’t worn it to anywhere special. So out if came.
Getting ready that afternoon I delved into my envelope and came out with the applicator, glue and a set of lashes.
I NEVER wear eye-shadow. I am rubbish at it and instead of a sexy smoky eye, I look like I have been punched in the eyes. However I put all my reservations behind me and decided I would try my best.
Twenty minutes later and it was time to do the eyelashes. Then the panic set in. This was an important event, I wanted to look my best and also test out the lashes to the best of my ability.
I chose No4 as they seemed a little more length to them.
No pressure then!
I checked the size of the lash and then cut a tiny section off as they were a decent size and my eyes are a little small. I got the glue out and this was when it went a little wrong…
I opened the tube, squeezed to hard and covered my fingers in glue!
Obviously cleaning myself off a bit I went for the second attempt and my hands were shaking so much with nerves that I dropped the lash on my boob. Terrific.
Take 3 and this time I had it down good. I lined the lash with a layer of glue, waited the 30 seconds for optimum tackiness to happen and then using the applicator pressed it to my lash line.
It stuck! Whoohoo.
At this point I was having a middle-aged lady hot flush. I was wringing wet and my hands were even shakier. Why? Well I had looked at the clock and realised I had thirty minutes before my taxi arrived. I was in my dressing gown, one eye-lash one and half done make-up! I had no idea where the past two hours had disappeared to.
I tried to put the second lash on, but I was literally shaking like a leaf. Logic said to leave it till I cooled down and stopped panicking.
As time was running tight, I decided to get dressed (whilst standing in front of a fan) then put on my vintage styled wig and do the eye-lash and lipstick last.
This turned out to be a great idea as I calmed down, cooled down and got everything done apart from that one lash.
I put the glue along the lash-line, left it to get tacky and did my bright red lipstick.
One last lash to do and the pressure was on. But the gods of glue answered my prayers and it went on first time. Hallelujah!
Finally I could get in my taxi and get my plus size derriere on a train to London.
So, what did I really think of the Mink lashes and accessories from Falseeyelashes.co.uk?
The quality of the lashes were excellent. Full, dramatic and very lightweight. I didn’t feel like I had a shelf and my vision was not compromised in any way. I put them on at 1pm (ish) and took them off at 230am, over 12 hours later. They had not moved, irritated, or prickled.
They framed my eyes beautifully and they were a real pleasure to wear.
The applicator made things easier to handle and the application was a lot quicker than normal.
The glue is the only bit I would have a small grumble about. It was very runny and when try to apply with shaking hands it covered everything including me. Saying that, once it had got tacky and I applied the lashes, they stayed up and didn’t stray or start coming undone. It could just be my rubbish shaky hands that made it so messy.
Either way, these lashes are outstanding. The site sells over 36 different brands as well as accessories, glues, eyebrow gels and pomades to name just a few things. The range of Mink Lashes goes up in price from £9.95 (Unicorn lashes) to their own brand at £9.99 and shoots across the whole spectrum until you get to the priciest pair at £34.99 (Blinking Beaute)
Honestly at £9.99 these lashes are epic and are of such great quality that I know I will be able to reuse them. Best of all, they don’t have that fake plasticky feeling that your normal store bought ones do. I never realised it before, but comparing the feel of the two, I know I will never go back to using the ones I used to.
Don’t forget you can get 10% off with your orders by using LASH10 on any order.
