So, I have a lot of friends on Facebook. Some I have met in person, others I only know through the cyberworld.
One of these is the amazing Michelle Carroll of Sink or Swim Bowtique.
A lovely vintage lady who makes the most amazing skirts, dresses and headwear. I had previously purchased some hair accessories with deer and nutcrackers on and I was so happy with them.
Then I saw a post she did around a month ago, offering Christmas skirts in a variety of prints. I fell in love with them all, especially the red and gold poinsettia print, however my heart belonged to the glittery Christmas village print.
I contacted Michelle who was an absolute pleasure to deal with. I had a lot of questions including if she could make a matching headscarf/wrap/turban, which she could.
Being plus size she had to charge a little more than normal due to the fabric used. I totally understood this and was happy to pay the price she quoted.
Once paid I sat back to wait the arrival of my Christmas skirt. To say I was excited was a total understatement. I had seen the material in a video that Michelle had posted and I literally couldn’t wait to get my skirt.
So when the postman delivered a spotty package, I was over the moon.
Opening it at work I was literally buzzing with excitement, as were two of my staff members. Trying on the skirt and hair wrap, it was a perfect fit.
Of course, being me I had to go into my office and spin around as much as I was able in order to get the full effect of the circle skirt. And let me tell you, it made a real effect!
I already have a cream and navy petticoat that I commissioned from Rock and Roll Underskirts and I think it will be perfect under this skirt.
I just need to get a perfect top to match it and I am all set for the Charity Dress Down day at work. It is the first time that the department I am in charge of has been allowed to dress in Christmas attire.
We are raising money for the local Domestic Violence refuge and I for one cannot wait to get my festive clothing on and raise a bundle of cash for such a worthwhile cause.
In the meantime, if you are debating whether to commission Michelle to make a dress/top/skirt for you, I cannot even begin to express just how great her creations are. The skirt I ordered is firstly, a perfect fit. It has so much material that it is a perfect circle skirt. The finish is sublime. The quality of the material is first class.
All in all, I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. Michelle truly is a sewing goddess and I know I will be ordering even more from her.
After all, a bespoke skirt in my choice of fabric for around £60 is a great purchase. Don’t forget though, smaller sizes are even cheaper than that!
I can’t wait to see what Easter fabric she comes up with…….
I feel a spring time skirt could be just what I need!
Till next time,
