On a recent post I talked all about a recent visit to the Theatre at The Stables, Wavendon.
We were due to see Crooners, an all singing, dancing and comedy show. Before we hit the theatre, we hunted for a restaurant to eat at before arriving at The Stables, Wavendon.
Around 9 miles outside of the theatre we came across The Cross Keys.
We turned up without a reservation and asked if there was a table for two available. Aaron was thankfully able to fit us in and we were shown to a lovely table in the main part of the restaurant.
Pablo was a lovely young man who couldn’t do enough to make our stay a pleasant one and took our order rapidly and the drinks arrived in a blink of an eye.
The menu was quite comprehensive, but we really didn’t know what to choose.
Rather than going for starters, we decided on some snacks. Mixes Olives (£2.50) Bread and balsamic vinegar and olive oil (£3.65) and the piece de resistance, Spanish Chorizo with a honey glaze (£2.95)
Well, I can honestly say it was all superb. Different flavour breads went well with the high quality olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
The Chorizo was spicy; sweet and flavourful.
The Olives were salty and tasty. With different filling they really hit the spot.
For our main course we decided on a Mixed Roast to share (£33.95) This involved a Beef strip loin, Slow cooked lamb, Shoulder of Pork, Cauliflower cheese, Roast potatoes, Yorkshire Puddings and mixed vegetables.
We thought it was a good idea.
And then it arrived. It was massive!
A huge white platter came along with thick, deep cuts of meat. The Yorkshires were the size of a cricket ball; the vegetables roasted to perfection.
We each got a jug of thick gravy and I was in my element. We split the meat into two pieces and loaded up our plate.
I have to admit, although the lunch was out of this world, I could only manage a third of what was on my plate. I hated to admit defeat as my tummy couldn’t take another morsel.
Aaron came along to clear our plates and asked if we wanted anything else. A much as I wanted to try their dessert selection, we were stuffed to the gills.
Sadly we couldn’t stay and linger as we had theatre tickets to get to. Before leaving we stopped to talk to Aaron and Pablo regarding the restaurant. Obviously we tend to take Baba Boy with us on days out so I needed to know if it was dog friendly.
I was happily told that the bar allowed dogs in, although the restaurant didn’t. However there is a large beautiful garden area which you can order food in AND dogs are happily welcome there. Bonus.
We are back at the Theatre in 3 weeks time so have already discussed going there beforehand. After all, it was too good not to go again.
I can honestly say that the food and welcome were both fantastic. If you find yourself in the area, I highly recommend giving The Cross Keys ago. You won’t be disappointed.
Till next time,
SPSG xx
