Around 10 months ago the Blogger wifey Boo asked if I fancied going to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the theatre.
Well being a massive Potterhead (although according to Little Chick, she is the real fan and I am just a muggle) I had to say yes!
The earliest tickets we could get were February 2019. Literally almost a year away.
It did of course give us something to look forward to!
Finally the day came around and I hopped on a train to London on a Wednesday morning. Boo and I were meeting at Kings Cross and having a bit of a mooch around before heading to the theatre.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a play of two halves. A large majority of people watch the matinee and then the evening performance on the same day. You literally cannot watch one without the other, although you can of course do them on separate occasions.
As I walked into Kings Cross to meet Boo, I saw a food market right outside Kings Cross. There was everything you could think of; Ethnic snacks, Donuts, Breads, Olives and more.
Boo and I decided on a couple of donuts from Crosstown; Cinnamon scrolls with vanilla bean glaze. The looked like a cross between a donut and a cinnamon roll. Yum!
There was also a stall selling long cheese straws. Well, we had to have some of those too.
We made our way to The Palace Theatre and had to have the obligatory photo shoot outside. We joined the queue which was massive and went around the block. All our bags had to be searched but thankfully they didn’t find the donuts as food wasn’t allowed in and we didn’t realise!
Eventually we got in and settled in our seats which were on the circle in the second row. Really great views but the seats were a little snug for us plus size ladies.
Then the moment were were waiting for arrived. The play started…………..
And that is all I am going to tell you about that!
J.K. Rowling herself has made pleas to theatre goers to keep the secret, and I wouldn’t want to get on her bad side!
However I have to say that it was nothing like I expected. The stage was amazing as was the cast. I was absolutely enthralled right up to the final minutes. It was one word…
Magical.
We left the theatre after the first part and headed off to get some food. Our usual preference of Five Guys filled the hole in our tummies and we sat chatting again until it was nearly time to head back for the second part. The good thing is that if you purchase tickets for both parts, you get to sit in the same seats.
Heading inside we hit the merchandise stand which had everything from t-shirts to keyrings, special edition brochures to pens. I happily purchased a Hufflepuff pen (my house) and a souvenir brochure.
Eventually it was time to get settled in and we found our seats. The show began and again the effects were outstanding, the acting immense and the story so very clever.
A tear or two may have been shed before the end and there was certainly a standing ovation once it had finished. A true work of genius.
By this time it was getting pretty late and time to get the train home. Boo and I separated company and hit our trains home; mine to Wellingborough station and hers, Reading.
The whole day was special. The play felt like a real surprise and I was sucked into the storyline within the first two minutes.
If you have ever considered going to see the plays, I highly recommend you do it. I would certainly go again.
Just remember though, #Keepthesecret
Till next time,
