As many of you know, the apple of my eye is my baby boy, Theodore the Chow Chow.
He is now just over two years old and has totally transformed our lives and certainly my mental health. It doesn’t matter how bad of a time I am having, he never fails to make me smile.
Every night when I come home from work, he is always ready to give me kisses and attention; in fact if I don’t give him at least 5 minutes of my time, he nips at my thighs and bottom with a vengeance! I can’t even give my daughter, mum or husband a kiss first. He demands all the attention.
So, why the working title of this blog?
Theodore is now and has always been a Diva Dog.
We can be walking along the street on his daily walk. He is mooching along, tail down, head sniffing at the floor. He glances up and spots a person.
*BING*
He transforms into a prancing pony. The tail springs up, his head lifts and he trots along to his next victim.
I say victim. There is not a malicious bone in his body. But if you don’t stop and give him at least a cursory stroke, he has the total hump for hours!
As I said, A Diva.
This phenomenon has only got worse recently.
He has learnt to recognise the click of the mobile phone camera.
He can be the other side of the garden. He could be fast asleep in the lounge. He has even been known to be watching out of the window and he hears the click and it is ‘Showtime’
He performs.
Posing for the camera, he looks into the lens and smiles.
It doesn’t matter the circumstances; I recently was trying to take photographs of a large Magnolia tree I have. Theodore was nowhere in sight. Then a muzzle appeared, before he plonked himself down right in the centre of the frame.
Cheese!
A couple of weeks ago the hubby was trying to get a photograph of Baba and I. We were both fast asleep on the bed.
Click!!!
In two seconds flat, he had not only woken up, but sat up and started grinning. He really knows how to make the camera love him.
This happens when we are out in public too.
People ask if they can take his picture and he is like a performing seal. He sits on his haunches and starts grinning. He makes sure he shakes his head vigorously so his mane fluffs out.
As I said, A total Diva.
And you know what?
I wouldn’t want him any other way. He brings so much pleasure to other people; total strangers who look at him. take a photo or give him a stroke and their faces light up.
The biggest two comments we ever get when out and about are – ‘Oh My God, He is Sooooooo Fluffy’ and ‘He looks just like a little lion, he does’
It makes me chuckle every time as these are said with admiration and love for him.
As I said, he has made me so much happier in the past two years and he also had that exact effect on total strangers.
Every so often the hubby takes him to work for the day on Northampton Market. He absolutely adores it. He gets fuss, attention and love all day long. By the time he is on his way home, he is absolutely shattered and sleeps for about 12 hours.
After all, it is a hard job being loved and adored!
Yet he seems to actively court it….
So, if ever you should see a prancing, preening Chow Chow, followed by a plus size girl in a big frock, come and say hello as it is probably highly likely it will be me and the phenomenon that is Theodore the Adorable Chow Chow.
Till next time,
