Most of you know that my annual trip to Twinwood vintage festival is the highlight of my year. This time round I had decided to chill out and not worry too much about my clothing or style.
This was mainly to do with the fact that I had torn my ACL, wouldn’t be dancing and planned to use a mobility scooter to get around on.
Being that I was limping quite badly, I knew I wouldn’t have the capacity to run around like an idiot getting ready, spending time and effort achieving the desired look.
So, several weeks ago I decided to knock it on the head and wear just what was comfortable, whilst still being slightly in keeping.
Friday the 23rd arrived and so did my Sister and Brother in Law. We packed up all our kit and headed to the Farm where we always stay.
I had been to Q.L Salon in the afternoon and had a faux poodle created by the lovely Janine. She managed to scrape up what little hair I had at the back of my head and using the large portion from the side, curled, pinned and sprayed to within an inch of its life.
I knew if I took care of it, I could probably keep it in for the whole weekend!
Arriving at the farm around 30 minutes later, we unpacked and had a chilled night of pizza and wine before a relatively early night.
So onto my outfits. For once the forecast was supposed to be scorching over the whole weekend. But even I didn’t realise just how hot it was going to become.
Now, for a lot of the staunch vintage lovers, polka dots are a real ‘no-no’ and I probably haven’t worn them for a couple of years. However I had seen this set on Unique Vintage and just lovely the fun vibe to it.
I paired it up with a beautiful straw hat that I purchased from Jane Fairhead last year. My Luxe Deville lucite bag and red Lindybop shoes finished it all off.
Of course, that was only the day outfit. Later on we returned to the farm and got ready for a glamorous evening. I went with Unique Vintage and wore the velvet gown that I got a few months back.
I teamed it up with earrings and a necklace that I had bought from the lovely Nikee Rayner that I knew would be a perfect match for the dress. I added a peacock feather head-dress and I was set for the night.
The following day, Sunday was a scorcher of around 36 degrees. This totally scuppered my plans of what to wear as I had a stunning pink Vixen by Micheline Pitt dress to wear but it was just too hot for it.
Instead I decided on the Baton Rouge Ella dress from Pin Up Girl Clothing. An old favourite, but a beautiful one and I had all the accessories to go with it. Although it was still a long dress, it was cotton and had no sleeves.
Sadly, as I had hurt my ankle really badly and couldn’t bear any weight on it. This meant I didn’t manage any full length photographs.
Sunday night was going to be a full on glam look. I had a stunning new dress that I hadn’t talked about and had managed to get some lovely shoes to match. Sadly as the dress was heavy velvet, I knew I wouldn’t be able to wear it. It was just too hot.
Normally I would have gone into meltdown but because I was just relaxing and having a good time, I wasn’t too worried. I had a lovely cotton short set in a vintagey floral print. Whilst it wasn’t something I would have worn to Twinwood normally, I really didn’t care.
It was cool, loose and worked a treat. And I styled it out!
In fact, the lovely Beverly Tompkins took this picture of me on the scooter. Yes, I know I look ridiculous but I really didn’t care.
Monday was the last day and I had another Vixen by Micheline Pitt dress which I had intended on wearing with a corset. Again it was miles too hot and so I wore it with my normal underwear, which left a bit of my harness bra on show.
I paired it with an original vintage hat, hair flower from Shazam. I was happy with the finished look and we hit the arena for the last day.
I have to say that this was my least ‘vintage’ Twinwood this year but I loved every minute. Maybe this is the way forward?
Less time getting ready, more time watching live music!
Till next time
