When you last left Boo and I, we had spent the day touring around Vilnius checking out some of the sights and having a lot of fun.
Today was Monday our Penultimate day.
For a change we were due to separate and go on two different adventures. Boo on a walking tour which took over three hours and I was hopefully going to visit the Hill of Crosses which was a 2 hour+ coach ride.
Sadly for me, not enough people had booked onto the tour and so it was cancelled at the last minute.
This meant that I was at a bit of a loose end. Boo had her tour booked and I knew that I wouldn’t be able to cope with the distance and amount of time walking around, so we decided to keep to the plan we had originally come up with.
We did a little souvenir shopping and then went for lunch.
We decided to try yet another Lithuanian restaurant (without potato dumplings) and hoped we would find something to our liking. As before, I was lucky as I would pretty much give anything ago.
We were served by a sweet young lad who literally couldn’t have been any more helpful. We ordered some Fried Cheese balls, fried rye bread and cheese dip and Boo decided that you really couldn’t go wrong with a potato pancake.
Could you?
The food came out and was absolutely wonderful. The fried bread and dip came with huge cloves of garlic to rub on the bread. Due to the roughness of the bread, the garlic was slowly grated down on to it with every pass. The cheese dip was thick and almost like curd cheese.
Then there was a large bowl with around 15-20 friend cheese balls. And boy, they were EPIC.
Finally out came a huge flat potato pancake with sour cream.
Boo was really looking forward to this and took a big bite. Big mistake.
It wasn’t to her liking; greasy, strangely tasting and not at all what she expected.
Me being me, I bloody loved it! Slathering it with sour cream, I ate my half. I wished I could have eaten more but I was absolutely stuffed to the gills.
It was at this point that Boo needed to go and meet the walking tour so I decided to go back to the hotel.
I wanted to write my first Lithuanian blog and I was also in the middle of an episode of Carnival Row on Amazon. I went to the room and sat and watched two hours of the show before deciding to go to the Bar/restaurant area.
I took the laptop and started blogging. I ordered a beer and managed to write over a thousand words before getting a text from Boo to say she was on her way back to the hotel. I ordered her a drink and waited for her.
I carried on writing and finished the blog and managed to upload over 600 photographs to my hard drive – Winner!
Boo arrived and we went back to the room to chill out for a little while before heading out for food.
She had heard of a place called ‘Downtown’ which was a large lounge/cinema area with a dozen or more food booths. You basically turn up, find a table and then go to the booth that takes your fancy and order your food.
The bar is in the middle of the area and you order your drinks accordingly. I got a Lithuanian brand Fanta for Boo and a beer for me.
Boo went off towards the Greek booth with had Halloumi wraps with vegetables in and I went to the burger stall. I had a burger with bbq sauce, bacon and cheese and the most amazing chips I think I have ever had.
The food was absolutely wonderful and we enjoyed every mouthful. We spent a good hour or so there before getting our Uber home as it was quite a trek to the hotel.
As it was our last night, we had to go and pack our cases as we had actually booked a tour for our last day.
We had some time to spare so the final order of the night was to put on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets before bedtime.
It is clear we really know how to live!
Till next time,
