Mighty Meatloaf Music

A few years ago I was given two tickets to see a performance called Vampires Rock at a local theatre. A colleague had been going, but due to ill health asked if I could use the tickets.

The premise of the story was a rock love story that was being performed by a live band, fronted by Steve Steinman.

Vampires Rock

For those old enough to remember ‘Stars in their Eyes’, Steve had performed on the show in 1993 as Meatloaf and literally was a ‘Dead Ringer’.

For the past 20+ years he had been touring as both a Meatloaf tribute and Vampires Rock to critical acclaim.

I coerced Little Chick into coming and I have to admit we both had a whale of a time. The music was fabulous, we dressed up in posh frocks and literally danced and sang our hearts out.

Meeting the cast after the event was a good giggle and we got our programme signed before making our way home.

Fast forward around 4 years and my best friend Helen saw that Steve Steinman was touring with ‘Anything For Love – The Meatloaf Story’

Anything for Love

This was being performed at our local theatre and as we do love a good band, we decided to get a couple of tickets.

Thursday night rolled around and we set out early to have a bite to eat before the performance. One of our local chain pubs have a really good selection of food and at great prices and was around the corner from the Theatre.

I had a Yorkshire pudding wrap, filled with 3 carvery meats, roast potatoes, stuffing and vegetables, served with mashed potatoes and mushy peas. Bloody wonderful.

Cheers!

We then headed to the theatre where we grabbed a quick drink before heading to our seats in the Circle. We had two seats smack in the middle of the row which gave us an ideal view.

The lights went down and the band blasted out the first few notes.

And we were mesmerised.

The first track, Anything for Love was a crowd pleaser. The band were electric, a drummer, 2 guitarists, a female bassist and a stunning piano player. Add to this three female backing singers/dancers and a little while into the show, a male singer too.

Rock and Roll Heaven

We were also treated to the vocal sensation, Lorraine Crosby who was the female vocalist on ‘I’d do anything for love, but I won’t do that’.

Well, you can’t ask for better than that, can you.

She came out and sang the whole song and was mindblowingly good.

Then Steve came out and it was like Meatloaf had literally turned up in our town. He was exceptional and sounded so like him. Apart from the fact that he was as bald as a coot, it could have been him.

Bat outta Hell

In-between songs, Steve was hilariously funny. With a strong Mancunian accent he mad fun of his own baldness, played around with the songs and acted the fool with the rest of the band and Lorraine.

Helen and I absolutely loved every single minute of it. Singing along to all the songs, we couldn’t help but get into it. It really was that good!

After two hours of hits, it was time to say goodnight. Of course, the crowd went wild and wanted an encore.

The guitars struck the chords, the piano started playing runs and Steve came out howling ‘Bat out of Hell’

What a spectacular night!

It was Spectacular!

Sadly it was over too soon and we clapped our hands raw with appreciation. Leaving the theatre you could hear everyone talking about how great the performance was. To be fair we walked back to the car and couldn’t stop talking about how amazing the performance was and how we had enjoyed it too.

We just need another night out at the Theatre soon!

Till next time,
