As a long time fan of Le Keux Salon and their fabulous cosmetics, it was a dream of mine to enter their ‘Face of  Le Keux’ Competition last year.

Sadly with family issues I forgot all about it and ended up missing the last day for entrance.

Fast forward to this year and I have spent a fabulous few hours at the salon and had a wonderful photoshoot with Boo at the back end of the year. If you missed my blog, you can your read it here.

Anyway, just before Christmas I noticed the post on Social Media looking for this years competition.

Entrance for 2020

I was determined that this year I wouldn’t miss the date and so completed the entry form in which you had to say why you should be the ‘Face’ and add a facing forward recent photograph for consideration.

Well, I actually chose a selfie that I took when I was at the photoshoot as it has become one of my favourite pictures and in fact is my profile photo on pretty much all of my social media.

I received an email back thanking me for my entry and it also listed a few rules, one of which I think I may have broken before I even started!

As many of you know, when I go to my vintage events I always wear a wig which was purchased from and styled by the amazing Carl Brown. This is mainly due to the fact that I lost a lot of my hair over the past couple of years (due to the peri-menopause) and ended up cutting it quite short.

This is also exacerbated by my long term shoulder issue which causes problems with me being able to raise my shoulder high enough to style, curl or set my hair.

So, I use the wig!

In the rules it stated that no wigs were allowed unless you always wear it, which is true for vintage events, however may well rule me out.

If that is the case, then I will just have to try and grow my hair and get it styled in time for next winter when I can re-enter the competition again.

It won’t be long before the lucky ladies who have made the grade are announced. Once that is done, then the finalists are down to public vote; photographs have to be put onto Facebook and those with the most likes are taken to the final in which Le Keux will make the decision on who the lucky lady is.

I wanted to enter as I think there is such a shortage of women over the age of 40 entering and indeed winning competitions such as this; in essence it is a young ladies game and one that I want to challenge.

Beauty comes in every decade and whilst I am not professing to be the most gorgeous woman on the planet over 40 (well, 45 in my case) I think I scrub up alright and want to be someone that inspires other to take that plunge and give that new style or look a try.

Vintage Style

As  most of you know, moving into the vintage style at the age of 40 (whilst also joining the plus size community) really did help change my life. I have never been happier in myself and my style so if it can do that for me, imagine what it could do for others.

Either way, it is another achievement. I have entered and now I just have to wait and see what happens. If I am lucky enough to be one of the contestants I will be over the moon.
