Many of you may recall a post last year where a visit to hospital meant a stay at the fabulous Anstey Hall. If you want a recap, you can read all about it here .

The operation hadn’t gone ahead, a year had passed and now we were due to be back at Addenbrookes.

Of course, being Cambridge there were lots of places we could stay, however Anstey Hall was really the only option for us. It was so fantastic last time, that we booked for a couple of nights this time.

So, on a Sunday afternoon we hopped in the mini and drove the hour to Cambridge so we were ready for the following morning.

Prior to our arrival I had requested a ground floor room if possible, however when we checked in we were told that there wasn’t any available, but we had been put on the first floor of the main house (they have stables and annexes too).

The lovely young lady showed us upstairs and said that we had been given room no2 which is a superior King size.

Well, she wasn’t joking!

We walked into a room which was probably as big as the downstairs of our house, complete with a massive four poster bed!

She then showed us the bathroom complete with chandelier and cast iron roll top bath. I was just stunned.

We had been given the most amazing room and I was really looking forward to sleeping in the four poster as I had never been in one before.

Both of us were quite tired so we plonked ourselves on the bed (SOOOOO comfy) and put on a bit of telly.

Luxury Living

Suffice to say, it didn’t take long before I dozed off!

Initially we were going to go over to a pub opposite where we had a few great meals last time we were here. You also get a discount when you stay at the Hall.

However, this time it was just too cold, had iced up outside and the room was warm and comfy. I suggested that we ordered a pizza delivery, had a bed picnic and watched some crappy Sunday night TV.

Firstly though we checked with the owner of the Hall, Mr De Bruyne if it was ok to order food in. He actually offered us the details for Deliveroo and told us to help ourselves to plates and suchlike from the breakfast room.

We ordered Pizza Hut as both really fancied gooey cheesy goodness and it was about 30 minutes until it arrived. Just enough time to go down to the honesty bar and grab a couple of drinks.

So, pizza, beer and Dancing on Ice it was! Oh and a Sephora foot treatment.

I know how to live!

I was very tempted to get into the bath too, but to be frankly honest I was shattered.

Knowing we had to get up early the next morning for a light breakfast before 0730, it was prudent to get an early night.

Or so I thought….

As I said, the bed was so comfy, the room snuggly warm but I just couldn’t sleep. At all.

I guess anxiety had taken over as I was left tossing and turning all night.  I saw every hour pass on the clock and my brain was racing.

Eventually the alarm went off and I had yet to get a wink of sleep.

It was going to be a long day!

Before we left for the hospital I popped my head into the open door of the room opposite where I could hear the maid. I wanted to mention that we were going out, but to not throw the pizza away as we would probably snack on it that evening.

I couldn’t resist taking a quick snap of the room as the bed was absolutely stunning.

I want this room next time!

Anyway, the hospital visit is not something I am going to cover in my blog. Let me just say it was a really long day but everything went well.

We got back to the Hall around 8pm and were totally shattered. We had to be back at the hospital for 0715 the next morning so trying to get some rest was vitally important.

Getting into pyjamas seemed like a great way to start it off. I put the Mr to bed and left to go down to the bar for a drink and some water for the night.

Although the Hall is very stately and posh, it is very friendly and accepting. Also, every night we have stayed there, there hasn’t been another soul in sight.

So, down I traipse, jammies, slippers, boobs swinging free only to find Mr De Bruyne and 4 friends sitting round the huge stone fireplace next to the bar.

Mortification set in!

I couldn’t believe for the first time ever I had managed to run into people.

Thankfully they were very gracious and we had a bit of a chuckle, before I said goodnight taking my beverages with me.
