One of my favourite clothes sites is Unique Vintage which is situated in the USA. Over recent years I have purchased a fair few things from there have loved the quality and sizes that are available to me and other larger ladies.

Over the last year I have lusted over a particular gown which is made by one of my favourite designers, Micheline Pitt.

Now, the Zhora gown was a stunner, yet quite out of my price league at £125.

More so, it was totally out of my comfort zone; A hooded 1940’s slim silhouette dress.

So, for several months I just looked and looked at it, never thinking I would end up ordering it.

That is, until the pre-Christmas sales when it was down to £82 with an additional 20% off with a special code.

Well, that was a whole different kettle of fish, wasn’t it.

However, it still was very out of my league and I genuinely didn’t know when I would ever have the chance to wear it.

And then I remember I am going to see Dita Von Teese later this year with the brilliant Boo. Well, it you can’t get dressed up for that, when can you?

The Zhora gown comes in two colours, Black or Chartreuse.

Those who know me, know that around 5 years ago I swore never to wear a solid black dress again after hiding in them for so long.

So the black was out.

This left the Chartreuse which is a pretty bold colour. However, looking at the photographs on the website made the dress look more yellow than chartreuse which always struck me as a mossy green/yellow.

Anyway, I took the plunge and ordered the gown.

In Chartreuse.

It makes a statement!

Well the dress arrived about 5 days later from America, which was pretty good. The customs and duty had been paid already at source so I didn’t have to worry about that.

So, what did I think?

My initial impressions were that it was nothing like what I expected. In a good way.

I had assumed that the dress was in a jersey material however when I took it out of the bag, it was a heavy crepe/cotton material with only a little stretch.

So far, so good.

Secondly it didn’t look  like the photograph at all and was in fact a moss/pea green.

No hint of that yellow….

Bonus!

Simply put, the colour was far better than I could have expected and the quality even higher. Don’t get me wrong. I own a lot of Vixen and know the quality is outstanding, however this exceeded all my previous purchases.

Glorious!

Now to get to the nitty gritty.

How did it look on?

Well of course there was one major problem.

I am pretty short as it goes; 5ft 2.

And this was made for an Amazonian woman! I would need to grow about a foot for it to fit me in the length.

Fits beautiful… Just too long!

Simple enough though, I have a wonderful seamstress and I will be taking it to her for several inches to be removed.

In the meantime, here is just how it looked when I tried it on.
