A few months ago I received the most beautiful envelope in the post. When I opened the wax seal, I was thrilled to find an invite to the evening reception of two very good friends daughter Emily.
I had come to know Emily through the fabulous Andy and Annette who I have been lucky enough to have many adventures with, especially at Twinwood Festivals.
Anyway, the glorious Emily was marrying her childhood sweetheart and the reception was being held at a stunning Manor.
I had to work in the daytime and was due to finish at 1600. This was going to give me enough time to get showered, wash my hair and do the make up and eventually my hair.
Unfortunately time conspired against me and I didn’t get it from work until 1750. Best laid plans and all that.
Earlier that week I had ordered 2 new dresses from Hearts and Roses and these had arrived the previous evening. I was torn between which of the two I was going to wear and tried them on before my shower so I could iron the lucky winner.
Sadly, the first dress fitted very well, however it was a very thin summer kind of material and you could see my bra through the pretty floral pattern. That counted this one out.
I tried on the second, and was immediately overwhelmed by a very fishy smell. The pattern had metallic roses on it and I am not sure if it was something to do with that, but the smell was so overpowering!
Heading back to my dressing room, I grabbed the dress that was my original choice to wear before panic buying (which clearly hadn’t worked)
The stunning Micheline Pitt Vixen Starlet dress was very plain. No embellishments or extras or patterns.
It just relied on a perfect design, cut and shape to really sell it’s attributes.
So…. that was the plan.
I quickly showered but knew I didn’t have enough time to do my hair. What the hell was I going to do with it? A French twist? Heidi roll? Something completely different?
Well as many of you know, my hair is naturally curly but some days it just looks straggly. Today was one of those days.
I remembered I had bought a Babylis Curl Secret device over a year ago for the girls hair. Would mine be long enough now to try it out?
Well there was only one way of knowing.
I literally had 15 mins to come up with a miracle so it was now or never. The gadget basically takes a lock of your hair, sucks it up into a drum, beeps a load of times and spits out a perfect curl.
And you know what, it really did!
I was so amazed with the results. It almost looked like I had almost done a wet set and brush out (which I am rubbish at doing) and I literally had to spray a little hairspray and put a diamante clip in and I was done!
The piece de resistance was the dress.
The Starlet Swing dress is Rose Pink is a stunning design by the Vixen by Micheline Pitt brand. I had bought this from my Blogger Bestie, Boo as she had ordered it but just didn’t fit her well at all as she is a bit smaller than I.
Luckily it was a perfect fit and I felt like a celebrity wearing it.
The only downside to the dress is that it has a deep waist join which the invisible zip really struggles to get over. Once over, it slides up like a dream, but to start with I was panicking as it took 3 people about 10 minutes to get it over the tricky section.
Once on, it was glorious to wear; heavy, structured, full skirted and even better….
Yes it has pockets!
And as we ladies know, you can’t beat a good pocket.
Well, these ones are deep enough to carry a large phone, glasses, lipstick, and probably half an eaten baguette if you so wished.
Anyway, On went the dress eventually, I added my Hotter Vivienne patent shoes and a small black patent clutch bag.
All set, it was time to head off to the Gosling Wedding.
So, did I scrub up ok? What do you think?
Till next time
