Most of you know I have curly hair.
This was something that developed during my teen years and by the time I hit my middle 20’s, my hair was almost spiral curls, but also quite frizzy and not defined.
As with most people, I wasn’t happy with my hair and when GHD’s appeared on the scene, I started straightening my hair.
For over twenty years I straightened it daily. It no longer curled and I was quite happy with this. The only time a curl appeared was in my perfectly straight vintage fringe when I got hot or caught in a downpour.
Typical.
However, in recent years my curls have started making an appearance. Sadly this was when I had cut it very short and couldn’t really show it off.
Fast forward to now and my hair is doing its own things. Some days it is curly, others straggly. Some days it looks like I have spent hours doing it and others I look like I have been dragged through a hedge backwards.
Anyway, a couple of weeks ago I was due to be attending an evening Wedding Reception. I was hoping to leave work a little early, but typically I got stuck dealing with something and left nearly an hour later than I wanted to.
I had my outfit sorted out, but my hair was a wavy mess. I didn’t have time to wash, dry and style it. I tried to do a vintage Heidi roll but I didn’t have enough hair quite yet.
What the hell was I going to do?
It was then that I remembered a little gadget I had bought around December 2018 which I had used on my girls, but not really on myself.
The Babylis Curl Secret.
Hair is automatically drawn gently into the ceramic curl chamber where it is held and gently heated from all directions to form a curl. The styler automatically alternates the curl direction each time a section of hair is drawn in to the chamber too.
You basically take a small section of hair, place it between the machine. This is then sucked into the Curl Secret and depending how hot you have set it for, will make single beeps until it is ready when it beeps six times.
When you release the clamped down machine, out pops a perfect curl!
Now, I had less than an hour to come up with a miracle and I was running out of options.
I plugged in the machine and set it for the highest heat. Whilst it was heating up, I brushed and sectioned my hair. I pinned all the top sections up and left a small lower layer at the back of my neck area down.
I took the gadget and placed my hair into it. It sucked it into the chamber easily and I awaited the beeps.
Was this going to work?
Well, not only did it work, it worked perfectly!
I continued working my way around, taking more sections down from the top of my head and putting them in the machine. Wonderful curls were formed and it was starting to look fabulous.
Eventually I had sectioned and curled every bit of hair but it was still a little too perfect. Bending over at the waist I shook my hair out and ran my fingers through some of the curls.
When I eventually turned my head up the right way, I was stunned by just how fantastic it looked. In fact, you could be forgiven in thinking that I had wet set my hair, dried it, and then spent hours brushing it out.
I backcombed a section of the fringe to create a higher swoop of hair before giving it a once over with a bit of hairspray.
So, how long did the style last for?
The high swoop only lasted a couple of hours as I have never personally styled my hair like this before and I probably just need a little more practice.
The curls lasted for THREE days!
I was able to ‘floof’ it up a bit, brush it through and it still looked amazing. Not defined curls, but a bouncy full hairstyle that was very easy to maintain.
Since then I have used the Curl Secret a couple of times and whilst the hair didn’t have quite the same vintage styling, I was really happy with the end result.
For me, the Babylis Curl Secret is a perfect hair styler. It takes me around 30 minutes to curl my whole head of hair and the results are always great.
I just need to practice a little bit more.
Until next time,
