I am in a lot of plus size groups on Facebook. Plus Size Chat, Plus Size Bloggers, Plus Size Fashion. You name it!
Not a week goes by that someone doesn’t ask that well known question – ‘Has anyone tried Shein? Is it any good/true to size/value for money/quality?
Usually they are pointed towards reviews or people tell them their experiences.
I don’t always put a lot of stock in this as with any kind of opinion, it is all relative to that one person. If there are 200 reviews all saying it is rubbish, then I pay a bit more attention.
Of course, there is the old adage; You get what you pay for! If you spend £20 on a dress, don’t expect it to feel like a Vera Wang gown. That is one of the benefits to fast fashion though. Cheap enough to be able to wear a couple of times before donating to a Charity Shop (which ALWAYS struggle for plus size clothing)
Anyway, I digress.
I was on Shein looking at a Kimono to wear as beach pyjamas when I stumbled across these beauties. Two dresses and an overdress/robe.
Anyway, first up is the black dotty robe. This is something that instead of being for the bedroom, is actually for using over a dress of your choice.
I would never have even thought of doing something like that however I saw the stunning ‘I Love Lucy’ collection from Unique Vintage. They had a beautiful dotty duster in the range which was being worn over a capri length jumpsuit.
It looked fantastic and I really wanted to give the look a go. Priced at £84 (plus import and tax) I really couldn’t afford nor justify that much for a thin robe to wear over something else.
So, when I spotted a robe that was not identical to the UV one, but similar and quite vintage in design, I wanted to investigate a little further. What was even better was the fact it was only £16.37.
Bonus!
This robe does not have tiny dots all over, in fact it is only the bottom and top that does. The middle and sleeves are plain, apart from a little ruffled cuff.
In fact this is very different in design to the UV one, but the same principle. And as I don’t know quite what I am going to wear it with, a punt at just over £16 isn’t bad at all.
Moving onto the two dresses.
I have no idea why I ordered these. They are not really my style AT all. But they just called to me.
The first dress is a sky blue and burgundy floral. And is pretty unusual.
A Shawl collar, flounced sleeves and a burgundy belt all compliment the floral design on the blue mesh fabric.
With discounts, the dress came to £29.06. I already have shoes and a bag that I can match with it so I am pretty much ready to go!
The last dress I ordered is again something I would never normally wear. I absolutely loved the way it looked on the model in the picture, however I don’t think I am going to look like she does!
For a start, she is around 5ft8 and I am only 5ft2!
I just loved it and at £29.06 I thought I could give it a go. I mean, if it looks that bad I can just return it!
So what am I talking about?
It is the grey/blue cape sleeve dress with plant design in gold.
Just something about this dress called to me. I might look absolutely awful in it, but I at least want to try!
With various discounts, which Shein is also great for, I got the whole lot for just £74.90.
Oh and then it automatically took off a £20 voucher discount AND gave me free shipping.
Pretty good considering. Even better, I was able to use Afterpay which is a facility that (if you qualify) you can make 3 monthly payments, One at the time of ordering and then the following two months, to make your purchases a little easier to afford.
This meant I could order my three products and pay £18 for 3 months. Pretty convenient!
I even think I have the shoes and a hair accessory to go with it, but I am sure there is no handbag in my collection for it!
Oooh Handbags!
Until next time
