If you read me regularly, you will have seen a post I did about the fast fashion company Shein and the products I was waiting to arrived.
I had ordered 2 dresses and an over-robe (as well as some kimono’s and wide leg trousers) and I was really unsure what the dresses would be like or even if they would fit me.
Well, a couple of weeks after ordering them, they had arrived and now was the time to test them out and have a bit of a fashion shoot in my back garden.
I had already tried the kimono’s and trousers for a 1930’s beach pyjama post that you can read here, but now I was looking at the other items that I really had ordered on a whim, more than anything.
First up was the cape sleeve dress in grey/blue with gold embroidery.
Initially priced at £35.49 but with discounts it came to only £29.06.
I loved the design of the dress and was hoping for great things.
I have to say, I wasn’t disappointed in the dress at all. It was made of the most beautiful tulle with an under dress in a complementing colour.
The pleated sleeves were stunners and a really unusual design feature.
The only downside to this dress, for me is that there is no stretch or give and my boobs just are unrelenting on this style of dress.
The volume of my breasts just made the bodice very tight and as it was quite structured it pulled on my neck a little as there was just too much boob and not enough material.
Please bear in mind however, that I am N cup bra and this is just made for slightly smaller chests than mine, no fault of the design or sizing at all!
I have decided that as I love this dress so much, I may well try it with my corset to see if I can distribute my very full cup area in a different way to what my high fronted bra does. If that works, it is definitely a keeper!
Secondly I had the lovely blue and red floral dress.
This again was an unusual style with puffed sleeve bottoms, a contrasting belt and a small shawl collar.
I have to admit, I absolutely loved the feel of this dress.
It was quite heavy, extremely well made and a dream to put on.
That is where the dream ended and the nightmare began.
This dress was a crossover front style dress and again through no fault of the design or manufacture, my boobs just didn’t want to be contained in the dress.
You can see this particularly in the front waist of the dress. Instead of it sitting around my natural middle, it is pulling up at the front and leaves a large seam area on show.
I was genuinely gutted about this as I really did adore the dress and had a function planned to wear it at.
However, even I could see that there was no helping the waist seam on this dress. I had to face facts that my chest really didn’t work with the dress and it was with a very sad heart that I packaged it back up for return.
The final option was a black swiss dot over robe that I wanted to wear over a little black dress. I had seen a similar robe for nearly £90 on Unique Vintage and this was a bargain at just over £16.
So, did this work?
Oh I think it definitely did!
I swanned around the garden imagining I was a wealthy lady in Los Angeles, A Black Widow, if you will.
I think the original vintage hat really set it off well and I know this will become quite a staple in my wardrobe.
All in all, my Shein haul was exceedingly pleasing and fitted a treat. It was just such a shame that the blue dress didn’t work for me, but you can’t have it all.
The total price for the two items I am keeping is £35. What an absolute bargain and I think looks a lot more expensive than what has been paid for it.
I do feel a little out of my comfort zone, but equally I am really looking forward to wearing my new items out; well as soon as the lockdown is lifted and there is somewhere to go out to!
Until next time,
