Recently I have posted a couple of reviews on products from Shein, the fast fashion company.
These have included the 1930’s beach pyjama article and some stunning dresses which I absolutely loved including the cape sleeved maxi dress.
Shortly after my reviews I received an email from Shein asking if I would like to review some more clothing from them. Well as I loved the first set of clothing I had purchased, I was eager to try something new.
I had a look on the site and bookmarked a few things I liked before investing a bit more time into the specifics of the items.
The one big thing that you have to remember about Shein is that it doesn’t have a standard measurement system. Whilst items will be advertised as a L, XL or even a 5XL, this doesn’t mean that it will always fit!
Depending on the style, manufacturer or even random designs, there could be several inches difference between two items labelled 5XL.
This is vital. My advice is although time consuming, check every item for its specific size measurements before ordering or you may find some will not fit; it could be too small or absolutely massive!
Anyway, I spent a little time looking at the different choices and eventually I came up with several choices. They had offered to send me two items but I had been asked to give half a dozen in case of stock issues.
I was really fortunate when I received an email to say that my clothing was on its way; they were sending my two top choices.
The first one was a lovely ditsy floral milkmaid dress in 5XL which is apparently the equivalent to a UK26.
I was really eager to try the dress on as we were having a bout of seasonably summery weather and I really wanted a loose floaty dress that was still pretty and also had a vintage flair to it.
The burgundy dress had little white, tan and green flowers all over and lovely little cap sleeves with ruching. The bodice had a shaped section with gathering that flattered the bustline and led into a long slightly a-line maxi dress.
I have to say I was a little apprehensive about the fit as although the measurements of around 57″ on the bust, I thought I may struggle on the waist as it would be a little snug.
Well I am absolutely delighted to report that it was a perfect fit and very flattering too, if I say so myself,
I decided to pair it with a large brimmed straw hat, a beige crocheted fan shaped bag. Still Vintage but not too much so.
My second choice was a bit more formal yet still had a vintage vibe to it.
The tie front dobby mesh yoke butterfly sleeve dress is a black wiggle dress with a see thru section and sleeves.
Again I ordered it in a size 5XL (UK26) which had a bust of 55.9″. As you can see, nearly two inches smaller than the first dress, and a prime example as to why you need to check the size guides.
The dress is made of a stretchy material and being that I am so short, reached down to my ankles. This wasn’t how I wished it to look so it will be my intention to get it taken up a couple of inches and whilst I am at it, I will get it taken in at the sides to create more of a wiggle style.
As the dress has a see through yoke and flounced sleeves, I will keep the accessories simple and pair it with an original vintage Corde butterfly bag which I was lucky enough to be gifted on my birthday a few weeks ago.
I was also really fortunate to receive a black velvet half hat which I thought would go very well with the dress. As it happens, I was not so sure about that so will keep my eyes open for a better option. In the meantime I went with a simple jewelled hairslide.
I tucked up the bottom of the dress and pulled it back so as to try and give the finished effect once I have given it to my seamstress.
So there you have it, two totally different looks from Shein but both absolutely stunning and right up my street.
I have to say I would be hard pressed to choose which I prefer!
