One of the only bonuses as a consumer during COVID-19 has been some of the sales that big companies have been holding.
Of course, I feel terrible sorry for all the businesses that are struggling to survive, especially the small businesses that have almost been decimated by the Pandemic. Being married to someone who wasn’t able to work for 12 weeks OR claim any money really hasn’t been easy.
However, now is the time that I have to be even more savvy with my money, even though as a family we are all back to normal working practices.
Little Chick was having a look online at a catalogue that I have done some work with, Ambrose Wilson. She wanted to get some wide leg trousers or culottes for work. She has to be smart casual, yet able to move freely and with comfort.
She actually works in Mental Health, so this is why she needs to have a certain kind of clothing and Ambrose Wilson had wide trousers in abundance!
Of course, whilst she was looking at some of those for herself, I popped online to see what they had in general. No intentions of buying anything as such, just bimbling on the Internet, really.
Then I came across this stunner of a dress.
As a previous wearer of Joanna Hope clothing, I know how well cut, styled and manufactured they are. The pricing can be on the higher side, however given the quality, very well deserved!
Anyway, I digress.
The dress that caught my eye was a Joanna Hope Teal Beaded Layer Dress that had a distinctly flapper style to it.
Now as many of you know, I love a good flapper style dress and I usually have places to wear them to!
One of the last nights out before COVID was at a private club that specialises in Gin; The Bouverie Saloon. I wore my burgundy GatsbyLady Molly dress with matching Eliza headband in gold.
It was a fabulous night and also gave me the chance to catch up with the fabulous Miss Em who was both compere and sang a few songs during the evening.
Hopefully after COVID has finally done its ‘thing’ and events are back up and running, I thought the Joanna Hope dress could a perfect option for another night at the Speakeasy.
The best thing was that it was in a massive summer sale.
Originally priced at £150 (which to be honest is a fair price for such a detailed dress) it was now available in the sale for just £30!
Yes, I did say £30.
Well, it was a no brainer. It went into my basket quicker than you can blink.
A few days later both Little Chicks order and mine arrived.
It weighed an absolute tonne.
Once I got it out of the bag, I was not surprised. The sequin and beadwork was so extensive that it was a real weighty dress which shimmered and shone like a diamond.
I couldn’t wait to try it on.
I have to admit it fitted like a dream.
The dress consists of two sections. The skirt and then a type of ‘overblouse’ section which is not attached to the body of the skirt, but an undergarment.
This means there is a different flow to it when you move AND it certainly makes it more flattering.
The weight as I mentioned is considerable, but not uncomfortably so. In fact it makes it feel luxurious and also like you are really wearing a special garment that calls for a special event.
I would certainly say to check the sizing chart out as I usually wear a size 26 in my clothing, but possibly due to the straight flapper shape and the size of my bust, I needed to order a size 30.
To be fair, I am not precious about what number it states on the label, I just want it to fit properly so I always check the size charts.
The dress is still available and although the big sale has finished, the dress is half price at £75 which is still a great price for the quality of the dress!
Anyway, the dress fits. The style is perfect. I have managed to perfect my flapper hairstyle (although not in these photographs)…
All I need now is for COVID to do one and the event to start up again!
Until then, I will just keep this baby in my wardrobe and my fingers crossed.
Till next time,
