As I may have mentioned before, I am not very good with my hair especially when it comes to Vintage styles.
But I *am* getting better at it through trial, error and practice. Oh and watching a load of internet videos!
One I watched recently showed a much easier way of creating a bumper bang without it being an absolute nightmare. Well, I was so impressed that I knew I would have to give it a go.
I have tried them in the past, but was so unhappy with the oversized, lumpy, snaggy result. I wore them a couple of times and then gave up.
Seeing the video, I went a step further and remembered the most amazing vintage hairstyle that the lovely Lyndsey of LeKeux Salon had given Boo when we had went to Birmingham for a photoshoot last November.
Obviously Boo has MUCH longer hair than I, so I genuinely wasn’t sure it would even work. But nothing ventured, right?
Now I had been in Southend all day and hadn’t got home until almost 9pm. I was absolutely shattered and was planning on an earlyish night. That didn’t happen as I fell asleep on the sofa, waking up around 3am feeling like I had partaken in a lovely nap and then was WIDE awake.
Well, what else was there to do apart from watch a film on Netflix and have a go at doing my hair and also my makeup as I had bought a new eye make-up palette.
I mean, everyone does that kinda stuff at stupid o’clock, right?
So I decided to try and do a bumper bang with two Victory rolls and a Heidi roll.
At 3am.
I sat back-combing, spraying and pinning my locks.
Then I had a go with the Revolution Pro Regeneration ‘Astronomical’ palette.
Again, I am pretty rubbish with eyeshadow, but I have been trying to wear different looks and experimenting with new colours.
I used Mystical, Somnium and Energy on my eyes along with a glossy coppery red lipstick that I got from Primark of all places.
As for the hair, I found the bumper bang quite manageable to roll. It was the pinning that I struggled with a little. Then I went for the Victory rolls. I have been doing these for a couple of years however when I cut all my hair off over a year ago, I kind of lost the knack.
I am so glad to say that I seem to have got my Mojo back!
My Heidi roll was a little poor, but that was simply down to the fact that there wasn’t a lot of hair left once I had done all the front, but I did get a small roll at the nape of my neck.
So, did it work ok?
You know what? I really think it did. Yes, there were some flyaways and some loose strands that could have been neater. But it was my first attempt and I was proper chuffed with the final result.
I decided to take the Heidi roll out and just have it straight and loose at the back. I even ventured out with the Baba to a local out of town shopping area.
You can imagine how thrilled I was when two older ladies came over to tell me they adored my style, especially my hair! It really made my day.
I have since created the same style (the following day) and it took half the amount of time and I guess with more practice, it will get much easier.
All I can say is, be prepared to see a LOT more of this hairstyle.
Till next time,
