Following on from the budget revamp of the lounge, I decided to spend a few more pennies on a tin of paint for the dining room.
Why?
Because I really didn’t like the colour that was on three of the walls!
I did a post a few years back about painting the dining room, hating the colour and then repainting it with a better colour. I had wasted enough money on the room and didn’t want to spend any more time or effort either.
So I had lived with it for the past few years and just ‘got’ used to it.
But I still didn’t like it.
After budget renovating the lounge, I wanted to improve the dining room without spending very much money at all. The pot of paint cost £25 and in two hours we had transformed the look of the room.
I already had a lovely dining room table and chairs, cabinet and occasional table. I didn’t need any big purchases, just a couple of little bits to finish the look off such as placemats and a new tablecloth.
Bank holiday weekend saw me popping round Dunelm Mills and B&M. All I wanted was some cushions for the lounge and the finishing touches for the dining room.
I grabbed 6 cushions very quickly and went to head out of Dunelm. It was then that I spotted some curtains in the sale. Now, I had a set of curtains at the front windows, however the rear windows were uncurtained as that was where I originally had my desk and I left them bare so I could look out over the dining room into the garden when working.
They had several pairs of teal velvet lined curtains that would go down a treat. For two pairs I paid the bargain price of £30 . They also happened to match the cushions perfectly.
I managed to get 8 placemats, two small swing bins and 90″ of padded thermal tablecloth material to cover the top of the table to protect it from hot pans and dishes. I was even more pleased that most of them where in the sale.
Getting home with my goodies, Little Chick soon gee’d us up into starting it there and then, rather than the following weekend. Out came the brushes, ladders and suchlike.
Up went the paint.
With Little Chick cutting in and the hubby using a roller, I was surplus to requirements so I went into the lounge to do some titivating.
The dining room table was in three sections so I rolled out the new table topper and placed the three sections of table on it. I marked out the exact size on the reverse of the material and cut out the shape of the table so it fit perfectly.
After sorting out some other bits and pieces I grabbed a brush and pitched in. Many hands make light work and all that.
As I previously said, two hours later and the room was painted. We moved the table and chairs back in which also protected the walls from the dog!
Later that evening I put the accessories and nick-nacks back into the dining room and re-hung the curtains.
The only thing now is to sort out the flooring as we currently (and for a little while have had bare concrete flooring as we ripped up the original laminate when we did the decorating and had never got round to doing anything with it.
Sadly it was too late in the day to do anything about it. I guess it will just have to wait for another weekend!
Till next time,
