I have done a lot of different posts about my hair. Colours, styles, curls, up-do’s, wigs and more. I have been to the hairdressers and tried a whole host of things such as the gorgeous rainbow effect that Lu and Janine at QL Salon did about 18 months ago
I am the first to admit I get very bored, very quickly.
Like most, I have made mistakes with my hair and I think I possibly have done quite a big one this weekend.
I bleached my hair.
Now, it is not the first time I have done this. I have been to the hairdressers and gone from dark to blonde and I have bleached my roots at home to keep the colour up and in the end I stopped due to the fact that it was ruining my hair.
Since then I have been all colours, but not bleach blonde.
So why on earth did I decide to do it now?
Well, my hair was looking a mess. Natural grey was going wild, with streaks and chunks all over the place and I was bored.
Really bored.
Stupidly when I get like this, I need someone to make me step away from the hair dye aisle. Sadly I was on my own on Friday when I picked up some BBlonde peroxide and bleach from Superdrug.
My intention was to bleach my hair first and then go a smokey grey. That way when my grey hair is coming through it will just blend in and make my life easier.
Well, how stupid could I have been?
It was early Saturday morning when I mixed it all up and slapped it on my hair. I thought I had done a pretty good job when I put the timer on for the designated time. I duly went and washed it off and that is when I realised that I had not done a very good job at all; I had large sections of ginger running across the middle which would never be covered by the grey dye that I had purchased.
Did I stop and think before taking my next action?
Of course I didn’t!
I had a couple more packets of the powder bleach, but I stupidly had only purchased one small bottle of peroxide. Well, it wasn’t a problem as I had bought a large bottle a few months back that I hadn’t done anything with so duly mixed up a batch and plastered it all over the section of ginger that went around the middle of my hair.
I again left it for the designated time and then rinsed it off.
There was literally NO difference at all. The ginger was still there and all it had done was made my hair feel more straw like. Why had it not worked at all?
It was then I checked the large bottle of peroxide.
The first lot I put on was 40vol. This large bottle was only 10vol. It explained it all!
I also had a bigger problem. I had an appointment in three hours and not enough time to sort this mess out. Well, I let it dry and stuck a beret on my head and styled it out!
I also got another bottle of 40vol so that I could get Little Chick to try and sort the issues out whilst watching our Saturday evening programmes. We managed to watch a couple of The Masked Singer USA whilst she sorted out the ginger stripes I had and we left it to do its magic.
I rinsed it off (again) and left my hair to dry naturally. I really didn’t want to add any more heat to it as it was looking a little fried already.
Sunday morning came and we again watched some more Masked Singer whilst she put on L’oreal Colorista Smokey Grey hair gel dye (and I hoped and prayed for the best!)
I have to say that whilst it was processing, the grey looked VERY dark, almost a steel grey. Whilst it wasn’t a colour I really wanted, it would be better than the ginger/peroxide blend I had got going on, so it couldn’t be a bad thing.
Once the thirty minutes was up, I washed it off and put a towel around it to take out most of the moisture. The pack comes with an intensive post bold colour mask which can add a lot of moisture to processed hair. I was really hoping this would be true.
According to the blurb, there are up to 6 applications in the mask tube. Well, my hair was feeling like crap and so I put the whole lot on in one go and left it on for an hour or so.
I mean, it couldn’t make it feel any worse than it already did, right?
Finally I washed it off and left my hair to dry on its own.
And kept my fingers crossed!
Did it work? Did the grey take effect?
I will let you be the judge.
Till next time,
