In the past few years the choices of reproduction vintage garments have improved in both style and sizes.
So many companies only went up to size 20-22 including some of the biggest brands (Collectif to name just one) and I admit I have both struggled to find items in my size AND drooled over items that were not made in a big enough size for me.
This has been a complaint many plus size vintage loving friends and I have shared, both amongst ourselves and with the companies themselves.
Thankfully this has certainly changed for the better.
The one place that this was let down a little was vintage style winter coats.
One of the most popular coats, the Pearl by Collectif hits the spot in terms of style, look and functionality however as previously mentioned just didn’t go anywhere near big enough with their largest size being a 22.

Whilst I am utterly thrilled to report that the black Pearl Coat now goes up to size 26, I am sad to report that it is currently sold out and I have no idea if they will be restocking it.
There is a gorgeous burgundy version… But it only goes up to a size 22.

As you can see, clearly the problem isn’t totally resolved.
Moving on from Collectif, there is very much a shortage of winter coats and none that really ticked the boxes.
Until I was looking on the Ambrose Wilson website for a slightly different type of coat (a dog walking coat) and came across several beauties by Joe Brown!
Joe Browns Favourite Blue Coat – £44.55 HALF PRICE
I have to admit I was a bit gobsmacked by both the styling AND the price.
Amazing Animal Coat – £99
When you look at the Pearl (whilst a very lavish, extravagant style) the price point of £199.50 means it is out of some peoples price range or too fancy for an every day wearing kind of coat.
Elegant Embroidered Coat – SALE £77.00
The Joe Brown coats are certainly up my alley and whilst not as lavish, I absolutely love the different stylings and embellishments.
Sensational Check Coat – £99
There are a couple that are not as long as I would like, so whilst fabulous, I have already crossed them off the list. This narrows it down to five!
Favourite Check Coat – £110
Obviously I probably have to think about several things including practicality. As much as I love the red, blue, yellow plaid coat, I don’t think it is going to go with a lot of my dresses and as you may know, I really don’t cope with clashing prints and designs.
Logic says that this black fur trimmed, hooded number is the best one. But it isn’t my favourite!
Absolute Fur Coat – £110
The only question now is which one of the coats I like the most and deserves to join my collection of pretty things!
