Most readers will know of the different projects that I have been doing with Q.L Salon; colours, brows, no mirror challenges and more.
This time it is a very special kind of project and that is the Salon itself!
For the past several years Q.L has been housed inside the local Private Health Club. Whilst this had previously worked out perfectly, when COVID-19 hit and every where had to shut down.
When other salons were able to re-open, Q.L wasn’t able to as Health Clubs and Gyms were still on the closed list.
After several months of not working, Lu needed to make a decision. It couldn’t continue indefinitely so what other options where there?
Several weeks passed and Lu had some exciting news!
A new location, literally two minutes away from the Health Club. A perfect option as this meant clients didn’t have to travel too far out of their way to come to the new salon.
So, why am I writing a whole blog about a new place to get my hair done?
Well, it is such an unusual place to transform into a salon and had such great architectural features that I just couldn’t resist!
Dickens Memorial Hall is an old building that has been used in the past for worship and community gatherings. It has been empty for quite a long time and had fallen into a little bit of disrepair.
With a lot of hard work and tender loving care, the hall has been given a new lease of life.
Stained glass windows, a stage area, beautiful original wooden floors and high ceilings. Well, it was just a glorious place and Lu and friends have really brought it to life again.
When I attended the hall, I really loved the vintage vibes that I was getting, even right from the front door with the heavy black bell that I couldn’t resist ringing!
Entering into the building I was thrilled to see how it had been transformed. The stage area had pedestal sinks on it, hairstylist chairs and the most pretty plain stained glass window.
Lu pointed out that it would be perfect for ‘after’ photographs!
Well, I have to admit that I totally agreed and was looking forward to doing some after my hair transformation.
Further rooms to the back of the main hall have been altered into a lovely new kitchen, beauty rooms, and toilet facilities.
The main hall is open plan so from walking in and approaching the reception desk, you can see the hair styling areas as well as the comfortable guest waiting area with Chesterfield furniture.
There is plenty of room to add display cases or desks that can be used to offer nail treatments or cosmetic offerings.
Absolutely perfect, in my eyes.
Anyway after my hair fix (and being fixed) I was taken into the beauty treatment room to have my eyebrows worked on.
Once everything was done, I was able to get in front of the lovely stained glass and have some top notch photographs taken.
Not too bad when I was only supposed to be getting my hair done, eh?
Of course, I had to get on a stepladder in order to get high enough for the photographs, but to be fair I have been put in many other more uncomfortable positions when getting photos taken so it wasn’t too much of a problem.
I really loved how they came out and I simply can’t wait to see just what else the Dickins Memorial Hall has to offer, after all….it is still a work in progress.
A bit like me, really.
Till next time,
