I am a big fan of Joanna Hope clothing.
I have had several different elegant dresses including the blue sequined flapper style dress and a hot pink wedding guest dress that I have worn on many occasions.
I love the fact that Joanna Hope creates elegant dresses which make even the shortest, tubbiest person (me) look glamorous and perfectly dressed for even the most exacting of events.
Recently I was looking on the Ambrose Wilson website for a winter coat. If you missed it, you can catch it again here
During my search I got waylaid a little and started looking for a few Christmas presents. As I was bumbling along I may have been swayed to having a look at the sale dresses!
It was then that I stumbled across this Joanna Hope dress in the sale.
And it was love at first sight.
I have always loved the idea of a Grecian Style column dress. Straight, elegant, classy and so not me!
Being exactly 5 foot tall, long straight dresses are not a style that I thought I could carry off. In my mind, you need to be tall, leggy and thin to get the best silhouette.
So I had pretty much shied away from that style, even thought I loved it.
When I saw the Joanna Hope Red Drape Dress, I absolutely knew I wanted it.
Originally priced at £85 it was down in the sale to £25.50. Surely it would be worth a try at that price? Also I had a voucher for a further 20% off so I decided to take the plunge and order it along with all the little Christmas gifts I had seen.
When it arrived, I was so excited. I couldn’t wait to try it on and hoped it would be as wonderful as I dreamed it would be.
I have to say, I was completely thrilled with it!
The dress is made of a stretchy soft material that drapes rather than cling. The back ‘cape’ style sleeve flows and moves beautifully with each movement.
The length was excellent although I took these photographs with fantastic red shoes that are great for photographs but impossible to walk in, therefore I will probably need to get 3 or 4 inches taken off to make it practical.
The left arm doesn’t have a sleeve at all, just a wide strap that is sewn onto the asymmetric neckline. I love that the strap is perfectly wide enough to hide my bra strap, but again as I have quite small shoulders, I might need to get an inch taken off so it is more of a perfect fit.
It is good now, but it could be much better!
Wearing this dress I felt like a grown up. Silly thing to say, but I actually felt glamorous.
These photographs were taken ‘off the cuff’ with just a few accessories that I had around the house. For future wear I intend to get some specific accessories such as a white fur wrap (vintage or faux) with a sparkling headpiece and some more extravagant jewellery.
Perfect for a Christmas soiree.
I guess we will just need to see if those things will be happening, come December!
Till then,
