So over the years, many of you know the trials and tribulations of getting a bra to fit me.
From made to measure with Rigby and Peller to Elegant Elomi that just didn’t go up large enough until eventually finding the Excellence that is Ewa Michalak in Poland!
For the past four years I have been wearing a variety of Ewa bras and loving them all. However, they have started to ‘let me down’.
Now, when I say that I mean it in the best of ways; on average a bra should last between 6-9 months. I have had my Ewa bras FOUR YEARS which means the quality and strength is out of this world!
The main issue I have is either the hooks eventually give way due to the extreme pressure that they are under every time I wear them OR I seem to snap the right hand wire in every bra I wear.
This is not just in Ewa bras; I paid over £600 for two Rigby and Peller bras and both right hand wires snapped after a year.
So, my Ewa bras are starting to drop like flies and I really need to get some more. The problem that I have is that I don’t know what size to order any more as when I visited Ewa myself, she made them specifically to my size. Also, in the last few years I have grown a bit bigger and I genuinely don’t know what size I need to order now.
The problem is because I want to get the sizing spot on, I really need to go and see Ewa again and do it properly. Given the fact that we are still in the middle of a global Pandemic, I won’t be going anywhere in the immediate future!
So, what to do in the meantime?
Obviously it is a lot easier to get bras sent within the UK. Especially if you don’t know what size you need. I went onto Ample Bosoms to see if there was anything at all that would work.
I have to admit, I wasn’t expecting much and didn’t think that there would be any items that would fit the bill.
Imagine my surprise when I came across the Ella underwire bra by Ulla Dessous.
This particular bra goes from a 34H up to a 44N. That is a pretty wide size range!
Now, I cannot state whether that is in European sizing OR if it is UK sizing. Part of me thinks that it would be European given the brand however, this would translate as a J cup in the UK and there is absolutely NO way I would fit in a J cup.
In fact I struggle to fit in an L cup, so the chances of getting in a cup FIVE sizes smaller would be unlikely.
If it is a UK N cup then it could solve a lot of my current issues.
Anyway, I digress.
The largest size available would be the best one for me to try; the 44N. I ordered it in ecru and waited for it to arrive.
Three days later and a delivery arrived from Ample Bosom; it was my new bra and I couldn’t wait to try it on.
How would it fit?
I have to say I was extremely pleasantly surprised!
When I got it out of the bag, it looked pretty small. The wires didn’t seem as if they would be anywhere nearly big enough to fit around my ample bosom. Of course, I really needed to try it on to see just how good or bad the fit was.
The colour was more sparkling white than ecru, which I really liked. The cups are half material, half lace with a lovely rose and leaf design.
One of the best design features that I love about the bra is that it has extra wide straps, which do not bend in half or cut into my shoulder. The lace goes up the strap for a couple of inches, giving it a really really nice finish.
The cups fit very well considering that it is not quite the right size. There is a little spillage at the side; more so on my right breast. As many of you know, it is very common for one breast to be bigger than the other.
In my case, it is my right one and not by a huge amount, thankfully.
They say that ‘The proof of the pudding is in the eating’. Just how would it fare when being worn for a day at work?
I have to report that it really did a good job!
The bra was exceedingly comfortable, soft yet strong. The back section didn’t roll up causing discomfort, the straps stayed where they were and didn’t cut in. The wires didn’t dig into my armpits or chest wall and it cupped my breasts with support.
The middle busk doesn’t sit flat to my breastbone as it ideally should, but that has always been a massive issue for me, so I don’t worry too much about it any more.
I have to say that that after an 8 hour shift, I was as comfortable as when I put it on first thing that morning!
To say I was surprised by that was an understatement.
Ask any woman and there is a huge per cent that would tell you that one of the best feelings in the world is getting in your house and ripping off a bra that you have had on all day.
The feeling is BLISS.
However, I didn’t get that feeling of bliss from the Ulla bra.
Why?
Well because I didn’t feel the need to take it off as soon as I got in the house. That is simply unheard of, but was a wonderful feeling in itself.
The Ulla bra is a very beautiful, well made bra that is an amazing alternative to my normal Ewa Michalak bras whilst in the current Pandemic, it would not act as a replacement for them long term.
The main reason for that is the price point. Don’t get me wrong, I have paid a lot more for a bra including the Rigby and Peller ones, however £93.00 for a bra is pretty steep.
Surveys show that most bra wearers have between five and seven ‘go to’ bras. Ones they reach for time and time again. There is no way I could afford to buy five or more given the price but whilst this Pandemic goes on, having this as an alternative is an excellent option.
Of course, as soon as I am able to fly to Poland again, I will be popping to see Ewa to stock up on as many of her bras as I can fit in my suitcase.
Till next time,
