Recently I have reviewed two dresses from a company called Zapaka that they had made to measure for me.
If you missed it, you can see it here
Anyway, I digress. There was actually a third dress which was SO good it deserved its own review.
So here we are. The third dress was a velvet evening gown in dark green.
As soon as I saw the dress on the website it called to me. It was very plain and simple; just a wide strapped, long bodice, simple skirted dress. No embellishments or ‘bling’.
But I saw a beautifully designed dress that with the right accessories would be quite a show stopper. I asked for this as one of the dresses that they were offering to send.
I had to give them my measurements so that it was a perfect fit and I specifically asked if it could be made floor length as I would like to wear it as an evening gown.
They were more than happy to do this and I gave them my height so they could get it spot on.
When the dress arrived I was absolutely blown away by the quality. The velvet was very thick and heavy and had a lovely sheen to it. The dress was fully lined in a soft green cotton and even had boning in the bodice.
It was of a standard that I didn’t expect, given the price point. At only $85, I would suggest that this is heavily underpriced.
The length was absolutely perfect and it fitted like someone had personally taken every single measurement and dimension of my body and replicated it in the material.
I added some original vintage jewellery, fur and handbag and I was all set. The dark green is so deep, it verges on almost black. I found the velvet to be so very soft and it is also really tactile. I couldn’t stop stroking it!
The only thing that I may alter on this dress is the straps. For a big built woman, I have very small sloping shoulders (a by-product of heavy breasts and bra straps) and this means they are a little long. Not long enough to look odd, but if I make them smaller by an inch, it would be perfect all over.
Please don’t think that this is a negative thing about the dress; it is just my own body shape being a bit awkward. For those with a normal shoulder line, it would be spot on.
If I am honest, this dress is one of the best quality dresses I possess and I genuinely didn’t expect it. Whilst it has been gifted to me, I would happily buy this dress myself and if it came in different colours then I would want it in every one.
In fact, scarlet red really takes my fancy!
This dress really needs a special occasion to show it off. Sadly with the current situation, I don’t have a fancy Christmas ball to attend this year. However, I think New Years Eve at home will be the perfect time to wear it.
After all, add in the vintage glamour, some songs from yesteryear and a glass of non-alcoholic sparkling wine and it will be an absolutely perfect outfit.
Bring on the sparklers and the bubbles!
Till next time,
