Recently I wrote about a dress that I had purchased from Unique Vintage which I was a little unsure of.
The Mocha Cupcake dress would either be the Cupcake dress of dreams or a total Catastrophe! I had visions of looking like Mavis Cruet from that ’80s cartoon, Willo the Wisp.
For those not familiar with her, she was a bluey grey haired dumpy fairy who had a caterpillar friend, Arthur amongst others. The baddie, Evil Edna was a boxy TV set and was just brilliant!
Anyway, this dress was fabulous and as I loved it, I bought it in the Black Friday sale and waited for it to arrive, hopefully before Christmas time.
Even though there won’t be any parties to go to, given the continued Pandemic, I wanted to make and effort and dress up for myself, if for no other reason.
So, how did I get on?
Well I have to admit that I even surprised myself. It was far far better than I could have ever imagined!
The only down side is that I didn’t actually have any shoes that matched my dress. I had no choice but to wear some black heels, just to take the photographs in, however I have now ordered some nude blush shoes which should be here in the next couple of days.
I decided that I would get the photographs taken in front of our Christmas Tree. This year, it was a lot bigger than expected and whilst I love having a real tree, this has taken over the living room a little.
It did make for some great photographs though, and coupled with the party dress, I have to admit to loving what developed through the lens of the camera.
This dress really ticks all the boxes for me.
The ruffles are soft, yet stick out giving a tiered effect. The satin crossover bodice and back are silky smooth and hug the body beautifully
I love the length of the dress also; it reaches just about an inch from my ankles, so is absolutely perfect!
The skirt is cut from a lot of material and has a great ‘spin’ to it. I think a petticoat underneath will make it look even more impressive than it already does, however these photographs were taken without one and it still works perfectly.
I would like to get some jewellery to compliment the dress, but I plan on taking my time over that. Some things cannot be rushed and I think this is one of those things.
The original vintage fur and earrings were purchased from small vintage sellers and my gold hairpiece was made by the marvellous Pin Up Curl.
I would also like to get a headpiece that is somewhat ‘showier’ as the dress and shoes are very neutral and I feel there is a need for something to stand out.
My plan is to contact the fabulous Sarah at Pin Up Curl and see what she can possibly create for me.
Until then, the original piece will suffice.
In the meantime, I need to find an event where I can show off this baby. Twinwood 2021 springs to mind.
Till next time,
