Prior to Christmas I saw an Instagram post from MelodyMae raving about a pair of shoes that she had been wearing from Ruby Shoos.
She was wearing a pair of Ruby red Mabel shoes; a combination of mock croc and faux suede with a smaller ‘Louis’ heel and a Mary-Jane style strap.
I absolutely loved the whole style and eagerly went onto the Ruby Shoo website to see what they had in stock.
Now, I have loved a whole variety of Ruby Shoos in the past, but have never taken the plunge as I do struggle with heels, especially since my knee injury AND I never really like to buy higher price point shoes, without trying them first.
Knowing that Melody Mae is a voluptuous vintage girl like myself, I was really impressed with her recommendation of the shoes being exceedingly comfortable, especially as she had been wearing slippers all year!
So, I added them to my Christmas wishlist, not really expecting that I would get them come Christmas Day.
Of course, being someone who has to ‘match’ I also added the Padua bag which was a perfect match, for good measure.
I genuinely was stunned when I opened my presents on Christmas Day to find firstly the bag and then the shoes.
So, how do they match up to Melody Mae’s recommendation?
I have to say that she called it perfectly. The shoes are some of the most comfortable I have ever worn, in fact.
The soles are padded material (in a contrasting print) the inside rear of the shoe has a padded heel ‘rim’ which both stops the shoe from rubbing AND slipping. The width of the shoes is fabulous, especially for someone who has quite a wide foot.
My only concern was that I didn’t think the strap would do up across my fat foot. I am happy to report that not only did it fit due to an elasticated section attached to the buckle, but it was wide and supportive and again didn’t rub at all.
I wore the shoes for the first time whilst doing a little food shopping at the supermarket. Now, most people would say that I must be mad to wear new shoes for the first time out on a shopping trip.
And normally, I would agree with you!
However, I was so confident in the comfort of these shoes that I really wasn’t worried that there would be any negative effects.
And I have to say, my instincts were absolutely correct. I did the weekly shop solo, with just a shopping trolley for company and no issues at all!
My main concern, was not that I would get blisters but that the heel would be problematic, especially with my tricky knee.
The Mabel shoe comes with the Louis heel. This name and style originated in the seventeenth century with King Louis XIV. As he was only five foot three inches tall, he commissioned heels to be made for him to increase his height.
Now, as someone who is five foot tall, I can do with a little help. The Louis heel is also one of the most ergonomic and stable designs due to the shoe heel being directly under the natural heel of the foot. It gives an even distribution of weight and balance, which I felt may be beneficial to my current walking capabilities.
Anyway, I put my bank cards in the matching bag and off I went.
Arriving home nearly two hours later, I was comfortable and felt very supported. In fact I continued wearing the shoes for the rest of the day with no ill effects!
Thanks, Melody Mae!
Ruby Shoo have a huge Boxing Day sale on currently, with up to 70% off on certain styles.
As I had some Christmas money, I had to go and have a look and see what was on offer….
Readers, I am very shocked to say that a pair of shoes and matching bag fell into my basket!
I am now waiting for a delivery of the stunning Purple Melody shoe! To be fair, it couldn’t be more perfectly named, could it? The cute little Lucca handbag was too gorgeous to leave behind and as I said, I do love to match.
At just £48.50 for both, they are an absolute bargain.
As soon as they arrive, I will do a comprehensive review comparing the two. As these have no straps, I know the fit will be slightly different but I am optimistic that they will be just as comfortable as the Mabel.
I will just have to wait and see.
Till next time,
