I have written a couple of posts recently about my love of wigs and my growing collection.
Well I have to admit that the collection has grown a little more in the winter sales, courtesy of Shein.
Obviously you can get a whole array of wigs at wildly different prices; up into the thousands of pounds, in fact. Now, I don’t have thousands to spend and my budget runs more to the economy bracket.
Whilst I am not an expert on wigs, I know there are a lot of dodgy cheap ones out there and some pretty good cheap ones too.
I have had a lot of clothing and accessories from Shein so I decided to take a risk and ordered my first wig from them four months ago.
The green/grey wavy bob just caught my attention and at only £14.49 it was a great price point. Would it be naff, synthetic rubbish though?
Well, I was over the moon when it arrived and it was a fantastic quality. Yes, it is synthetic hair however it doesn’t have that shiny nylon feeling or look to it.
In fact, I put my picture on Instagram and many of my friends genuinely thought it was my own hair and I had dyed it!
That is a pretty good compliment really. And a great wig!
As I had such a good experience, when I placed my next order, a stunning lilac colour wig fell into my basket and again I was thrilled by the quality.
I have to admit though, in both cases I had chosen a wig that was similar in length to my own hair. Yes, I know the colours were a little different to my normal hair, however if people didn’t know better I could have possibly got away with the fact that it COULD have been my own hair that I had dyed.
Well, I wanted to really step out of my comfort zone and wear something totally over the top.
What would be the wig that I considered would do that?
Well, it doesn’t get more OTT (compared to my own hair) than this stunning ombre pale pink to raspberry long curly wig.
I absolutely loved the darker roots on this wig blending into pale, then getting brighter.
Now, realistically I am not sure when I will get a chance to wear this out but I loved it enough to order it. With a discount code it was just £13.19. Bargain.
The second wig that I ordered was actually my favourite and I had been considering it for several weeks. I just didn’t know if it was going to come out as fabulous as what it looked like on the website.
But for the amazing price of £11.99, I really couldn’t resist it.
This one was the exact opposite to the raspberry wig; a grey ombre curly wig and I just had to have it.
Regular readers will possibly remember a recent peroxide disaster where I put lots of bleach on my hair as I wanted to go back to grey again and all I did was mess my hair right up!
So this would be a perfect opportunity to have the grey hair of my dreams AND add a little length which is something I have been trying to do for months, now.
I have to say this wig totally exceeded all my expectations. The quality is just brilliant, the colour exactly what I wanted and what it looked like on the website.
When I put it on, I was absolutely thrilled with the look and without sounding like a totally vain idiot, I think it really did suit me quite well.
The other thing that I like about these wigs are that they are of a high enough quality that I genuinely don’t think it looks like you have a wig on. Yes, of course my hair hasn’t grown overnight but it doesn’t look like I have something completely false sitting on the top of my head!
There was a third wig that hopped into my basket and this one was pretty staid and boring compared to the others. But something about it just called to me and I wanted to give it a try.
This wig was a blonde/brown bob with a fringe. Simple and very normal, for me anyway!
I added it to my basket along with a couple of other bits and pieces and was really lucky to get a 20% off voucher code. This meant that the three wigs came to just £35.97.
A total steal considering that you can spend hundreds if not thousands.
So, the last wig I put in the basket was actually the last one I tried on. I thought that after the grey one, nothing else could compare to it. I fell so totally in love with the grey ombre that I thought the plain bob would be a mere shadow in comparison.
However, I have to say it was actually my favourite of the three!
I genuinely feel that I could wear this wig anywhere. To work, the supermarket, to a lunch or an evening event. It is of such a high quality that it looks totally natural.
And I absolutely feel a million dollars with it on.
It is really light and easy to wear and the colouring is a subtle honey blonde with brown undertones. The fringe is the perfect length and I tried sweeping it across into a side fringe and that seems to work too.
This wig is so very versatile and I cannot give enough of a positive review for it. It really is spectacular.
Oh and before I forget, one of the best things I ordered at the same time was a silicone non-slip headband. This is a stretchy band with little nobbly bits on both sides. The nobbles grip onto your own hair, and also that of the wig once put on.
Now, I know that for safety and security with a wig, that glue is the best method of securing to your head. However, this does make a tacky mess and also I usually manage to get it everywhere.
With this silicone band, it keeps the wig exactly where it needs to be and by tightening up the internal straps, and using a couple of hairgrips the wig was as solid as if I had used the glue.
Priced at £2.99 and available in dark, clear and beige, they really are brilliant bits of kit and have made my wig wearing a whole lot easier.
The last item I would recommend is a wig cap.
This is a stretchy nylon hair cap that you put over your own hair once it is pinned up. It covers your hair, reduces any lumps and bumps from your own hair and gives a smooth effect.
Starting at 49p for one, it is a staple piece of equipment when wearing a wig so make sure you pop one of those into your basket too.
Anyway, these three wigs have joined my collection and I am sure it won’t be long until there are a few more winging their way to me.
I just need to get a way of storing them better as I currently have 2 ‘heads’ to put them on and that really isn’t enough.
Ideas anyone?
Till next time,
