In the past I have had a fair amount of false eyelashes put on me, both ones that are glued on and the kind that you have professionally attached at a salon.
I love how a false lash frames the eyes, but I HATE trying to glue them on and I also really dislike the ‘hooded’ feel that heavy full lashes give you especially when you can see them sitting out like a canopy over your eyes.
As many of my readers know, I wear contact lenses and have to be a little careful as to what I do with my eyes.
When I glue them on, I need my contacts in to see, however I really need my reading/magnifying glasses on to see just what the heck I am doing!
Bit of a catch situation going on there.
Having lashes put on at the salon are a lot easier and far less fiddly (well for me, anyway). You just need to be careful when rubbing your eyes or wiping your make-up off, but they do a great job.
Apart from the feeling of having that canopy over your eyelids, my biggest problem with salon lashes is that you cannot take them off easily. You either need to go and have them removed or pull them off yourself, which can be pretty painful.
AND not recommended!
So, for me the glue on lashes are a much better option as you can take them off easily and they are far cheaper too.
In the past I have just bought the normal ranges that you find in Boots or Superdrug. Eyelure would normally be the brand that I would grab, usually because they have the most options and designs.
Looking at the Eyelure website, they have over 104 products to choose from, including special collaborations with people like Felicity Hayward, The Plastic Boy and Jordyn Woods.
A pair of standard Eyelure lashes cost around £4.50 and whilst they could probably be used a second time, I tend to end up with so much tacky glue on them from having to try two or three times to get them to work, that once they have been worn, they come straight off and go in the bin.
To be honest, I probably only wear false lashes twice a year. They are just more aggravation than they are worth, although I absolutely adore the look that they give me.
It’s a vicious circle I guess!
So it was with excitement that I watched the bloody fabulous Leanda of Just_eat_the_doughnut talk about magnetic eyelashes.
She even did a video that showed how simple it was to apply the magnetic eyeliner, allow to dry and then pop the eyelashes on.
Now, whilst I had read how easy it was to use the lashes, it was only when Leanda did her video and showed the application, that I genuinely thought I could do it too.
I messaged her to get the link from the web and went along and placed an order too.
Just two days later a package arrived through the post. Eagerly ripping it open, there was a glamorous flat box inside decorated with a pair of eyes.
Untucking the package, I pulled out a plastic inner lining and was treated to the vision of a rose gold false lash applicator, three pairs of magnetic lashes and a bottle of magnetic eyeliner.
The question is, would I be able to apply them as easily as Leanda had shown?
I am happy to announce that I certainly did!
Shaking the bottle up as directed on the instructions, I painted a line as close to my natural eyelash line as I possibly could. The directions (and Leanda) advised that you needed to allow the eyeliner to dry, so I did my blusher and highlighter whilst I waited.
As soon as it was dry I took one of the eyelashes and used the applicator to move the lash towards the liner.
It literally connected to my eyelid with no issues, stress or fiddling about!
I was completely impressed.
Perhaps it was a one off? I took the second eyelash and moved it closer to my eye.
And there you have it. Two false eyelashes applied to my eyes with no mess, fuss or panic. A total revelation!
I suppose the next biggest question to ask is how long they lasted. Well, I had them on for the whole day and into the evening and they looked fabulous throughout.
One of the best things about the eyelashes is that they are also multi-use. Even though there are three pairs, you can wear each pair a multitude of times. I just took a make-up remover soaked cotton buds and carefully wiped along each lash to remove any leftover liner.
It came off easily and left them fresh and ready for use.
So, just how much were the lashes? This particular brand was available on ebay for a paltry £5.99.
There are more than a dozen different styles of lashes available; some extra length, some to add thickness and others to add glamour.
The ones I chose were number #6 and I have to admit they are both thick and glamorous!
I will definitely be getting some more, possibly in a different style/thickness as they are just so easy and lovely to wear.
If you struggle with attaching glue on eyelashes, I highly recommend these as they are fabulous to wear yet easy to put on.
I mean, if I can do it…. anyone can!
Till next time,
