Back in March of 2020 I went to the Opticians as I was struggling with my contact lenses, which I wear for long distance.
I was finding that the print of my laptop and mobile phone just wasn’t crisp and clear which meant that my up till then perfect close vision was on the wane.
Cutting a long story short, I was advised to wear varifocals when wanting glasses on and to wear a pair of ready readers when using my contact lenses.
Now, as I wear my contacts on a pretty much constant basis, I got myself some reading glasses and things have been pretty good.
I have noticed however, that the more I wear the ready readers, the more I have needed them. Whereas I could get by using my phone without glasses, now I can’t see well enough to even put my pin in!
Over the past year, I had managed to amass a few pairs of glasses however being a bit clumsy I have managed to break a couple of pairs.
So I was looking to get hold of another couple of pairs as I like to have a pair in my bag and another in the office, just in case!
I was bimbling about on the tinterweb looking for cheap ready readers and stumbled across eyekeeper.com which had quite a good range of vintage ready readers.
There was a style that I was familiar with as I already had a pair in green – the Betty from Retropeepers.
Loving that style, I was pretty impressed to see that they sets of ready readers for a bargain price.
Three of the ‘Betty’ style glasses in Purple Ombre, Black and Tortoiseshell for only £10!
Or I could go with six pairs.
The initial three with the addition of Black Ombre, Red Ombre and a pair of ready reader sunglasses.
All for the fabulous price of £15.
Now you really can’t say fairer than that, can you?
The site was initially showing all the prices in dollars, so I assumed that they would arrive from America which meant it may be a couple of weeks or so until they arrived.
Given the price and the fact that I know I like how the glasses look on my face, I decided to push the button out and order the six pairs.
The time was 1859 on Thursday evening.
Well, you can imagine my surprise at around 1600 on Saturday when I had a delivery from Amazon. I wasn’t expecting anything at all so what on earth was it?
Well, only my 6 pairs of glasses, that’s what!
Less than 48 hours later, I had all six pairs of glasses in my grabby little hands and I loved every pair of them.
I ordered mine in 2.0 but these come in every magnification from 0.50 to 4.0 (including .50 and .75’s).
The package was really well wrapped and each pair had protective cellophane on them. There was also a soft glasses bag type case for each pair. Not bad for £15 at all.
Well, £15 and a couple of quid for postage. And boy, was that postage well worth it, given it arrived in under 48 hours.
So, given that I have 5 pairs to choose from what did I immediately choose to put on?
Of course it had to be the red one. A perfect match to my outfit at the time.
In fact I think the purple and the red are my absolutely favourites, however the sunglasses are pretty good too.
We just need some sun in order to enjoy sitting in the garden with a good book.
Till next time
