Everyone knows I love my headwear.

Whether it be a hat, a t-shirt turban or a woolly bobble hat, I wear them at every opportunity, even going to the supermarket in a 40’s tilt hat!

Vintage Tilt Hat

Now as much as I love to be ‘on-point’ when it comes to my look, it does take a bit of effort as vintage hair doesn’t come in a matter of minutes. You need to wash it, wet set it, leave it to dry overnight (or a period of hours) and then brush it out and style which can take a couple of hours.

It is my practice to either wash and roller it at the weekend and then have my set last from Monday to at least Thursday, sometimes Friday. I refresh it with dry shampoo and keeping the set involves wearing a fine hair net and a little amount of backcombing.

This has been working really well for me but of course there are those days when it has all gone a bit ratty and I need a solution to get me through.

I found a perfect solution when bumbling along on Instagram and came across one of the amazing people I follow, Alice Browns Cupboard.

She had posted a video tutorial of how she ties her turbans in different styles. I was immediately intrigued by the actual turban style and wanted to know a little more.

From watching the videos, I could see that the turban was worn both with the front at the front OR with the back at the front! But what difference would it make?

I found it quite bizarre!

Bow Tie

Popping onto her etsy shop, I saw that not only did she have simple turbans available, she had reversible ones, pre-tied ones, braided ones and even fan shaped topped ones.

I was immediately drawn to the reversible ones as not only would it be worn front and back, it could be worn front and back inside out!

There were so many colour combos that I loved but I had to be realistic on which specific one I could get. As much as I loved the maroon & peach, mauve & gold and teal & beige, I knew that it needed to be something I could match to several outfits I already own.

It made perfect sense then to go with a red and black combination; red jersey inside and black velvet outside. Placing my order I was excited to see just what I could come up with on its arrival.

A Bavarian Twist

Here you can see a few different kind of knotted finishes. They probably have posh names, but I genuinely can’t tell you! Whilst they may look a bit tricky, they are actually relatively easy to loop and fix.

So far I am not sure which outer colour I prefer; the black is classy and easy to wear with everything, but the red is striking and bold.

I guess I will have to wear a red and black dress and swap the turban inside out half way through the day. That could probably cause a few confused looks!
