Recently I was sent four items by Shein to review and I have already shared a fabulous shirt dress and a brilliant jumpsuit.
Now it was time for a simple sundress which actually packs quite a punch.
I had chosen the Off shoulder self belted frill dress as one of my items to review as I thought it was a perfect dress for the summer, which I could also style in quite a vintage way.
Heading into my dressing room, I had a quick look through my collection of hats and opted for a wide brimmed straw hat that has a red scarf to tie under the chin. Adding some Hotter black t-bar shoes, an original vintage black Corde handbag and a grey/black wig, I also took a red and black wide brimmed felt hat to give the outfit a second look.
Unfortunately the day was pretty grim; windy and a little stormy. This meant that I needed to get the photos taken quickly yet well done.
This was initially hampered by the photobombing Chow, Theodore. He insisted on being in every single photo but didn’t pose in a way that made the photos useful.
In fact it took me ages to edit/crop the photos in order to have some that I could use in this post!
The second problem was the gusts of winds that tried to take off my hats repeatedly. The straw hat was not too bad as it was tied on, but the red felt hat just didn’t work.
We even tried timing the process, where I would hold on to the hat and as soon as the wind stopped, I would release the hat and pose.
It worked about 5% of the time. The other 95% was spent chasing the hat around the garden.
The other problem was it lifted one breast up higher than the other, which you can see in the above picture.
All in all, the photo process wasn’t great but the dress was.
A soft tiered cotton which was cut in such a way to give a lot of flow and movement. The off the shoulder style makes it perfect for a summer day, but could also be dressed up for an evening out.
It comes with a long satin belt, which gives a bit of definition, however I do think that it would look better with a more solid option. This would also dress it up a little more.
Since being sent this dress, I have had a couple of new accessories arrive which I think would go really well with the outfit including a lovely red heart shaped necklace.
I also plan to actually change the colour combo up a little and look at combining it with navy or even navy and white for a fun nautical coloured theme.
The dress is simple enough that it can be styled up very easily. It is almost a blank canvas that is waiting for extra items to bring it to life.
At £22.99 it is a perfect price point for a summer dress with a huge amount of styling possibilities.
I am actually looking forward to showing this one off in many different ways. I have a whole ream of hats to start with.
Bring on the sun AND the Summer!
Till next time,
