Now given that it is only the middle of April, reviewing Swimsuits may seem a little premature. The weather isn’t that great and the Summer Sun seems a long time away.
However, I fell foul last year as I waited a bit too long to order the items I wanted and by the time I went to do so, they had all sold out.
Determined not to allow that to happen again, I made a decision to order a couple of the ones I really loved from Shein.
When they arrived we were thankfully having a bit of a sunny day and so I took the opportunity to throw on some jewellery, complimentary make-up and a robe which I had showcased in previous blogs.
Whilst it wasn’t warm enough to sunbathe, it was certainly warm enough to get a few photographs so I could showcase them on my blog.
So, what did I choose?
At this point I only opted for two suits; the Solid Ruched One Piece Costume and the Floral Tropical Mesh Trim One Piece Costume.
The first is an olive green plain style swimsuit which I thought had a very vintage look to it. Priced at only £13.99, it was a colour that I don’t have a great deal of in my wardrobe, so thought I would give it a go.
The Second costume was a very pretty tropical print with an unusual crossover neckline. The mesh trim was mirrored in the waistband for added effect and at £14.49, it was highly affordable.
So, how exactly did I style the two costumes up?
Starting with the Floral Mesh Trim, I decided to add a black long robe to compliment the black trim. I also had some fantastic metal cheese-plant shaped earrings which mimicked some of the design in the floral sections.
What was my verdict on the costume?
Well, the suit is very well made and of high quality. The mesh trim is unusual in the fact that it has a see thru section in the middle of the black strapping, which gives a cheeky little touch.
Did it work for me?
Sadly, this costume didn’t really work for me in its current guise.
What I didn’t realise was that the black trim straps are highly elasticated. As I have quite a short body but heavy breasts, the weight of them pulls the front down quite considerably, and the elastic just stretches rather than supports.
You can clearly see on the photographs the costume is ‘sitting’ lower down on my chest than it should compared to the model.
However, this is fixable.
My plan is to get around 5 inches of the elasticated section removed/shortened in order that the elastic will not over-stretch and this means it will also give me better support for my chest.
The next suit was certainly more up my street.
A gorgeous Olive green with wide straps and a ruched midsection, this suit reminded me of those golden days of yesteryear.
I added a pair of Olive metal floral earrings which I also own in pink and a black/white combo.
The finishing touch was a blue and green floral robe which I usually wear as beach pyjamas. This matched perfectly and really worked as both a cover-up and a complimentary accessory.
I added a pair of green Johnsons sandals and outside I went for photographs.
Sadly, when I looked back at the shots that had been taken, I didn’t really like the shoes at all however the only thing I can do is crop my feet out of the shot, which looks ridiculous.
This suit fits much better than the first one, apart from one thing.
It had sponge breast cups in each strap section.
Now the problem you find with that, is when you are as big chested as I am, they are about as much use as a chocolate tea-pot.
The cups are just about big enough to cover my nipples!
Thankfully there is a round hole at the base of each strap/bust section which meant I could remove the pads completely, which is what I did.
The resulting effect was completely what I wanted it to be.
I absolutely loved this look so much, that I cannot wait to be able to wear it at the pool or possibly on a foreign holiday.
One has to have hope, right?
Till next time,
