As many of my readers know, I have an ongoing collaboration with Shein Clothing.
By this, I get to choose a certain amount of items every 5 or 6 weeks and try them out and give my honest opinion.
So far, all of the items I have been lucky to receive have fitted perfectly and I have been able to give a positive review on them. This time round I chose four items and have to admit they were a bit hit and miss!
The first item I chose to showcase was the ‘off the shoulder mesh overlay maxi prom dress’ in a beautiful ice blue colour.
Now given that we are still in a Pandemic and there is nowhere really to go, it seemed a bit like a pointless choice, in many respects. However I fell in love with the simple yet elegant styling of the dress and I wanted to see just how it would look on me.
Well, how did it do?
So for me, this is a dress of two halves.
The styling is beautiful and the quality is exceptional, to a certain degree.
The top features a ruched bust area so no matter how small or big busted you are, it gives great coverage and a classy décolletage.
There is a draped arm section can be worn in a variety of ways, either lower down over the arms or you can ‘open’ the material to cover the arms and shoulders a little more.
Moving on down to the skirt area, this is where is becomes problematic; it is very see-through. I had to put a white petticoat on under the material and it was still a tiny bit sheer.
This is not something that cannot be overcome though. I only have one slip type petticoat and it is not very thick. Using a thicker slip or a nude body-shaper style undergarment, this would solve the issue.
Personally I intend to try it again with a full vintage petticoat underneath which will make the skirt stand out, giving it more of a ball gown effect. I think this would work exceedingly well.
Overall it is a beautiful garment that it exceptionally well made. The material is soft and isn’t scratchy unlike some of the tulle materials that are used, especially in clothing that is on the lower side of the price scale.
When I say the lower side, this is priced at just £26.99!
For a prom dress, it is an absolute bargain.
So, you may be asking yourself where did the title for the blog come from? Well one of my Plus Size Pals saw a photo on Instagram in the dress and said I was giving off Elsa from Frozen vibes!
Well, hadn’t honestly thought of that but could totally see what they were saying, even though I hadn’t actually posted any of the photographs in the longer wig with pale blue tips!
I didn’t post any of the photographs in the longer wig as I didn’t really like how it looked together, but I thought I would pop a few here just to show the difference.
All in all, this dress is a 75% success. When I add that fuller petticoat, I think that it will totally hit the spot 100%
I will be sure to give it a go soon so watch this space!
Till next time,
