Recently I was lucky to be sent three dresses from Shein Clothing to review. I have already shown off the beautiful Elsa inspired dress which I absolutely loved. If you missed it you can see it here
My second choice of dresses was another long ‘posh frock’ as my Aunt Gwen would say.
This time I had gone for the Rhinestone Split Thigh dress which is a stunning dark Midnight Blue dress with batwing sleeves and a gorgeous bejewelled section across the midriff.
When it arrived I immediately loved the colour. It was very deep and had a luxurious tone to it which is complimented greatly by the stones that are joined by multiple metal rings.
This gives a sparkle as well as a sense of classy style.
So, how did it look on?
Starting from top to toe, the fit was fantastic. The dress skims the body but doesn’t cling to your lumpy bumpy bits, if you are like me! The bottom goes out into a mermaid style and has a long slit up to mid thigh, without being too revealing.
One of the things that I wasn’t too sure about when choosing this dress was the batwing style sleeves. I remember wearing them back in the late ’80s and I was never a fan.
However, these wings are joined onto the bodice and whilst the front gives a gorgeous sculptured effect, the rear looks like a half cape. The sleeves are slit along the inside edge, so even though the front and back look like the wings, you are not wearing reams of material.
This also means that the dress isn’t heavy and as a woman of a certain age, getting overheated is a genuine problem. I found when wearing this I wasn’t getting uncomfortably hot.
One of the best things that I loved about this was the elegant silhouette that it gave. Being a 24/26 in UK clothing, form fitting dresses can sometimes be off putting if too clingy. This one wasn’t and it flatters your whole body shape.
As we are still in a semi-lockdown, there hasn’t been anywhere to wear this dress yet.
I am hoping that once events and parties start in the coming months, this will make its proper debut as I genuinely feel amazing when wearing it.
For those of you keen to know what I am wearing with it, I paired my favourite wig from Shein which you can find here.
I love the style and shade of this wig and I have even worn it to work for the day. It is both comfortable and looks so authentic that people didn’t realise I was wearing it.
At the time I added a beautiful bejewelled hair accessory that I commissioned for another outfit from the amazing Emma over at Peacock Pretties.
Whilst I absolutely love this hair piece and have worn it numerous times, I think it is just a little too much given the jewelled section across the middle of the dress.
In hindsight, I truly believe that the dress is spectacular enough that it doesn’t need any other embellishments at all.
One other thing, you may have noticed I am not wearing any shoes in these pictures. This is not something I usually do unless I am wearing swimwear, however my damaged knee was particularly painful so the heels I would have showcased with this had to stay in their box.
I hope when I come to wear this out, I can put the sparkly shoes on and really go to town!
Till next time,
