A few weeks ago I had a message from Gentry who is a marketing manager for a large fast fashion company, Rosegal.
I have seen so many advertisements and posts on Instagram for the company and also have heard a lot of good (and bad) reviews.
This made me eager to give them a try and see for myself just what their products, delivery, quality and price was like.
As many of you know, I do a lot of work with Shein who are deemed to be of a similar ilk to Rosegal. How would they compare and who would I prefer?
With Shein I am able to pick up to 4 garments for review which gives me a huge amount of scope. Rosegal did things a little differently.
Gentry added a $100 dollar gift card to my account which meant I could order any and everything I wanted up to that value.
Well, to say I did pretty well is an understatement as I managed to get 6 dresses for my money.
Given the postage time for things from Shein, I was expecting to have a similar arrival time. I have to admit, I was completely wrong as the first package arrived very quickly.
Notice I say the FIRST package.
The first package had one dress in it, which had a bit of a winter flavour to it. I had deliberately chosen this as something to wear later in the year as it was red and white with a little bit of faux fur.
I couldn’t quite understand why there was only one dress in the package. However an hour or so later I received an email from Rosegal to advise that the packages had been split and some would arrive later.
Well, that was actually a bit of a bonus as getting several parcels makes it more of an exciting thing. Almost like extra presents.
Around 5 days later another parcel arrived, this one was a bit chunkier.
Upon opening it I found three more dresses; a Halloween horror number, a red elegant evening look and a gorgeous navy floral fancy.
This meant there were still two dresses outstanding as of the publication of this blog.
So, I had to decide whether to write about all six dresses in one blog, which also meant I would have to postpone writing and taking pictures. Also it felt like it may be a bit too much for one review
For this review, I have decided to focus on two of the dresses – The Embroidered Cold Shoulder Bodycon Dress and the Front Twist Midi Party Dress.
Firstly looking at the Bodycon dress, this is a beautiful navy blue dress which is heavily embroidered with red roses and green foliage.
The dress has pretty draped floral straps that sit on the side of the arms and a sweetheart neckline. The floral top joins onto a navy stretch skirt which sits just above knee length.
I ordered this in a 5XL which is a UK26, my normal size and it does have quite a bit of stretch to it. Being only 5 ft tall, it is probably a little longer on me than on others, but I really like the length.
So, what is my opinion of this dress?
It is absolutely gorgeous. The embroidery is simply stunning BUT the floral section is very see thru so I had to be really careful what underwear was used as some of my bras were visible.
Whilst many people may be confident enough or happy to have a bra on show, I am not one of them and would be very uneasy. To make this work for me, I wore a mesh corset which sat a bit oddly (mainly as I didn’t lace it up tightly enough)
I actually felt like the draped straps and exquisite embroidery didn’t need any extra accents so decided to not wear a necklace which I am not too sure if it worked. I will more than likely wear a simple silver chain in future.
To compliment the dress I added one of my favourite wigs, a Betty Page style wig from Mimo wigs.
The dress is priced at just £16.04 and there are usually some amazing discount codes which reduce the cost of your basket considerably.
My second choice was a beautiful asymmetric midi dress.
This really struck me as quite unusual as there are two layers to this dress, the longer over layer and a shorter mini dress that is visible from between a large slit that starts at the twist front.
The colour is described as firebrick, which is a matte burgundy. The long sleeves and square neckline make the dress look quite sedate and refined until you go to take a step forward and the deep split parts to show off your legs.
I really liked this whole idea and decided to pair it with some gorgeous gold Asos shoes and a little cube bag from Primark.
The neckline felt like it needed something but I didn’t want to over complicate things so I added a gold necklace, gold bangles and some gold rings.
Topping it all off, I went with one of my favourite wigs, a brown bob from Shein.
Like a lot of fast fashion the dress is made of stretchy Polyester mix which gives a lot of movement and comfort, but can get quite hot.
This dress was also fantastic value at £20.75.
So far these two choices have worked out really well for me and I cannot wait to show you the other four choices and give you my complete review of Rosegal.
