I don’t like leopard print.
There, I have said it.
I guess my aversion to it stems from watching Coronation Street in my teenage years and seeing the brash, buxom, bottle blonde character, Bet Lynch wearing pretty much Leopard Print from head to toe.
Since then I have associated it with tacky and cheap (which is how Bet was) and I have pretty much shied away from it most of my life.
So it was a bit of a surprise even to myself when Shein offered to send me some more clothing to review and I chose a leopard print swing style jacket as my very first choice.
For some reason, the length, composition and style of the coat, with its black contrasting piping really stood out to me and I happily messaged Jessy with the details as one of my four choices of items for this months review (the other three will have their own premier).
The question was what to put with the coat?
It is very full in style, comes to mid calf on me and needed to have something a little plain underneath, yet that had a bit of body and style to it without detracting from or clashing with the pattern.
Then I remembered the perfect dress. A black strapless number with a cute V cut-out and a full pleated skirt.
Given that the dress is plain black, it would compliment the coat perfectly, whilst giving shape and style to the overall effect.
So, did I end up coming to love leopard print?
Well, with this coat I absolutely did!
Now to give an honest review of them both.
The dress was one I purchased myself from Shein. Costing just £19.49, the Plus Notch Pleated Tube Dress is available in sizes 16 – 26 and is made of a stretchy polyester material.
The skirt is made up of lots of tiny pleats which give fullness to the skirt and makes it very flattering on pretty much all body shapes. The top part features a silicone banding inside which ‘sticks’ to the skin a little, stopping it from sliding down.
As I have said many times, I am 5 foot dead in height. This dress comes down to around my ankles which is a flattering length on just about everyone.
Of course, by adding a slightly higher shoe it would lengthen the leg a little, giving a more elegant look. However, with the knee and hamstring being what they are currently, the little t-bar shoe I paired it up with was about as good as it was going to get.
Whilst the dress is already a bargain at under £20, given the discount codes that Shein offer I managed to get this for just £15.46.
So, was it worth the cost?
In this case, yes and no.
The dress is beautifully made, with great design features but the material is quite thin. That isn’t a major problem for me though as I am more than happy to put a ‘jive’ style petticoat underneath which will give even more body, and also fix the thinness of the fabric.
Problem solved!
Moving onto the coat, the design is quite a large print, featuring the regular leopard pattern. This is accentuated with black piping around the wrist area of the sleeves to compliment the ‘black splodges’ of the animal print.
Made of polyester, it is both light-weight yet comfortable. The swing style coat hangs well over my figure whilst being of a heavy enough weight to give it some body and swing.
The coat is available in sizes 16 – 26 and is at the amazing price of just £13.99.
I genuinely love this coat and I can see it being a great staple to any wardrobe; thrown over a top and pair of jeans, with a black pencil skirt and white blouse or like my example, a LBD.
It is light enough for a Summer evening, an Autumn day or with the right garments underneath even a frosty Winters morning.
Add on the discount that Shein usually gives, means it would potentially come down to around £12.00
Perfect for almost every budget.
And if I say so myself, it looks like it cost a whole heap more than the £30 price tag for both.
Do you agree?
Till next time,
