Recent Readers will have seen of my birthday purchases including some beautiful vintage style shoes from Lulu Hun in the Collectif sale. If you missed it, you can read it all here
Well, the shoes arrived and I was absolutely thrilled with them. They were perfect for the outfits that I wanted to wear them with and I knew they would be exceptionally comfortable, given that they have a flat wedge style heel and supportive strapping.
They were so good in fact, that I made a second order and purchased four more pairs.
Now whilst you think that may seem a little excessive, my knee troubles and the fact I am not getting any younger makes it very sensible to get a range of shoes to match all my vintage style outfits and get rid of the high heels and low ballet flats that may look good but cripple your feet after a couple of hours at an event!
So, given that I had already purchased the brown snakeskin and yellow Lily wedges what else happened to fall into my basket?
Although I got four pairs, I actually bought two different styles in two different colours.
The first set was the gorgeous Giada wedge in both black and green.
Giada is a beautiful design. Cut out sections, cross-over straps and a lovely brass coloured buckle adorn the PU shoe. The wedge is around 2.5 inches in height and is very stable, whilst not being too heavy on the foot.
Of the two pairs, my favourite has to be the green ones. The green is a lovely spring shade with a slightly mottled effect which gives some depth to the material.
The strapping is vamp like and because there is the double cross-over design, it is delicate yet supportive. The best part though are the cut out sections on the heel section, which both adds to the design and allows air to circulate around the foot.
I had the opportunity to wear the black Giada shoes to their first function recently when I spent the weekend at the Black Country Living Museum 1940’s weekend.
Wearing a black and white peplum dress, black straw hat, Corde bag and floral accessories, the shoes were a perfect combination and given that there was a lot of walking around to do, they did the job perfectly.
Of course, it was a hot day, relatively new shoes and a LOT of walking so I did get a small blister. However, I was comfortable all day and was left with no pain in my heel or sole, which is usually the case with flat ballerina style shoes and regular heels.
This to me was a total win and the sign that my pretty little ballet flats need to go into the bin!
As I mentioned, I got two sets of shoes in the sale.
The other shoe I went with was the Connie Wedge which has a beautiful design featuring a contrasting white bow and piping on the front of the shoe.
This time I tried to focus on shades that would match a lot of my current outfits. This meant that Navy and pink were perfect options as I have so many outfits that feature those colours.
Again the shoes have a wedge heel of 2.5 inches which is both in keeping with the era, is sturdy and yet very comfortable to wear.
The Navy is a deep dark Navy, almost bordering on black, whilst the pink is a very pale nude pink which is delicate and matches perfectly with the bow and piping, which again comes in white.
Because these are quite neutral colours, I already have matching bags, hats and accessories to go with them which makes them another winner.
All of the shoes are still in the Collectif sale with 50% off, making the Giada £24.50 and the Connie is an even bigger bargain at £22.50. They really are a bargain and to be honest, I am so pleased with them that when looking for shoes in future, I will be heading to find these styles and similar again.
Even at full price, the shoes are well worth the money; comparable style vintage repro shoes are usually around the £100+ mark so these really are exceptional value.
Using my birthday money, I managed to get a total of six pairs of shoes in the sale, which will cover most of the colours in my wardrobe; black, navy, pink, brown, green and yellow.
All I need now, is a pair of red ones!
Till next time,
