As many of you will know, I have been trying to complete my ’50 things before I turn 50′ bucket list.
This was something that I originally wrote in 2017 and for the first two years I had gone through a fair amount of the items listed on there and was looking forward to ticking off a lot more.
And then COVID hit.
As we all know, the World pretty much came to a full stop as Countries shut down and everyone’s life was restricted. This also meant that the 50 things to do list became a 50 things NOT to do.
Of course, we have come out of lockdown and this means that I need to get on top of the list as I have around 27 left to do.
Or I did until recently when I managed to cross another four off the list –
No 16 – Swim in an outdoor Lido – August 5th at Woburn Lido
No 23 – Visit 10 Countries in 8 years SMASHED it – St Lucia, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovenia, Austria, Slovakia, Germany, Lithuania, Portugal, Greece and France
No 39 – Play the Piano in Public
This happened in the Republic of Uzupis in Lithuania back in Sept 2019, before the World imploded. Sadly, I don’t seem to have any photographs of it so may have to re-do it for the proof.
No 48 – Attend an outdoor Theatre performance
So this brings me to the title of the blog; Realistic Removals.
As most of you know, I injured my knee in a ‘Gin-cident’ over Easter 2019. For seven weeks I walked around with a badly torn ACL but I hadn’t got it checked out and consequently made the injury much worse
Then in the July I damaged the Meniscus and in September I re-damaged the ACL.
Since then I have been under a consultant but again, due to the COVID pandemic, my physio, appointments and treatment plan have gone slightly awry.
A further injury and hamstring rupture have exacerbated the situation and I find myself in constant agonising pain. I need to use a walking stick 24/7 and when I am out and about, I use a rolling walker.
This means that now, at the beginning of September, I have had to re-evaluate quite a chunk of my life/activities.
Taking a look at the ’50 things’ list, it has become apparent that there are a few things on there that I just simply am not going to be able to achieve.
Not because I can’t bothered, but because I physically am unable to do so OR to try and do so would cause great pain and further injury.
Therefore I need to re-evaluate a couple of the items on my list and replace them with something different. Now, I know what I need to take out, but I don’t know what to replace them with instead!
Coming out of the list are the following –
No 5 – Abseil down a building
No 25 – ‘Run’ a 5k for Charity
No 32 – Cycle along the Canals in Amsterdam
No 34 – Go for a Skiing lesson
My intention for No 32 would still be to visit Amsterdam, but not cycle along the Canals. A slow, gentle walk might be feasible though.
As for the other three, I simply don’t have any clue, so suggestions would be most welcome.
So that leaves 20 things left to do on my list. Some have been verbally arranged, such as going on the back of a motorbike and scuba diving, however I still physically have do them.
A few of them I haven’t even thought about yet but with three years left, I am doing okay, time wise.
I just need to stop procrastinating and get out there.
Till next time,
