Without repeating myself too many times, I have an ongoing collaboration with Shein Clothing which means they usually send me four or five items every 6 weeks to review.
I recently showcased the fabulous long mustard coat which has been doubling up as a dry robe for me on my sponsored swim. If you missed it, you can see it here
Whilst showing the coat off, I gave you all a sneak peek of the red vintage style dress that I was wearing underneath and now it is the dress’ turn to get the spotlight.
This was actually the first item I requested when sending Shein an email with my choices.
A vintage style wiggle dress in red, with red & white chequered lapels, faux pockets, sleeve section and a thin belt.
As soon as I saw it, I thought it looked like something that a waitress in a 50’s diner would wear. All that was missing was a little frilly cap and apron to finish off the look!
The package arrived around 8 days later and I was excited to get the dress out.
Now, the largest size they had was a 4XL and I usually wear a 5XL. However I checked the measurements and felt that it would fit, but could be a little on the clingy side.
If you have been reading me recently you will see that I have a new found love for my visible tummy bulge and have been shying away from the looser, floatier style dresses.
Basically, I have stopped caring what other people think about my lumps and bumps.
Don’t get me wrong. I am not going to stop wearing those looser dresses, but equally I am not going to shy away from the tighter fit, if I like it!
So, what was the dress like?
Made of a extremely stretchy ‘rough’ thick Polyester material, the check accents are a real boost to the simplistic design of the dress.
Featuring a wide collar, chevron shaped sleeve embellishments, slanted pockets and the aforementioned belt, I really loved the design and could see it getting a lot of wear.
The design is clingy, but not exceptionally so. The measurements for the 4XL are 48/41.7/49.6 inches. Given that my measurements are 56/48/58, I took a chance that it would fit me, given that previous purchasers had said it had high stretch.
They were not wrong.
It skimmed across my figure beautifully yet didn’t feel tight or restrictive. The material clung to my hips and bottom, before curving in down the legs to make it almost a wiggle dress.
Given that I am only 5 foot tall, the dress was longer on me than the model online where it was just below the knee, on me it came to mid calf which is just how I like the length of my clothing.
I paired the dress with a ‘Pin Up’ wig in black, my red ‘Mabel’ Ruby Shoo’s and a gorgeous red orchid hair flower by Shazam. The final touch was a stack of bangles from Splendette and Bow & Crossbones.
The whole look really worked for me and I happily went out for the day wearing the ensemble. It was an eye-catching look and I really felt good whilst wearing it.
I do have to mention a small downside though; the belt.
Whilst the dress was very stretchy, the belt was designed with the actual published sizing in mind, which as I was 7 inches bigger, there was no way it was ever going to fit me as it is a leather style belt, with no stretch.
I genuinely didn’t feel this was a problem as I do have both red and white belts if I wanted to add one, however in this case I chose to go without.
The end result was still stunning without it and didn’t detract from it in any way.
If you like this look, you can still get it in selected sizes for the amazing price of just £13.99 and I totally admit it is worth every penny.
Why not go, have a look and treat yourself!
Until next time,
