Whilst I hate to be bringing up the ‘C’ word, I had a email from the lovely Jessy at Shein asking if I would like to collaborate with them again.
Well, to be honest, I had been looking at some of their ‘party’ dresses which had started to appear on the site and instead of looking at wintery clothes, I decided to look slightly ahead and plan my Christmas Party wear!
As many of you already know, I wear a 4Xl/5XL in Shein Clothing, but due to the amazing fact that they publish every single measurement for every single item of clothing, it makes it easy to work out if something will fit.
This cuts down on the ordering, not fitting, being disappointed and having to send clothing back dilemma!
As many people have experienced, the main downside with Shein is the delivery timescale. On average, it takes 10 days to two weeks for items to arrive due to them mainly being in the Far East.
And that is exactly the reason why I am doing my Christmas Party dress list now!
As usual, Shein offered to send me four items of clothing and in order to do so, I needed to give them my four choices and two extras in case an item wasn’t available in my size.
In this instance, three of my top choices were available, but my first choice was down to just one dress left in a 4XL and this meant that they took one of my ‘extras’ and sent that instead.
Either way, I was more than happy with what they sent me as they are ALL stunning.
First up for review is this glorious 1930’s Chinese style dress (in my opinion)
Made of black velvet with silver embroidered stars and lines, it has a beautiful straight column design, like most Chinese style dresses.
The neckline, as you would expect is a Chinese collar with two frog clasps which are also in black. The sleeves are slight balloon style, but with an added bit of style have little satin ribbons as the cuffs, which need tying.
I asked for a size 4XL which is a UK 24 with measurements of 49/43/50″, however the material is pretty stretchy.
Deciding to go with something a little different, I paired the dress with some beautiful black velvet Adele shoes from Miss L Fire, silver star earrings and a grey blunt bob wig.
I wanted to give it more of the vintage style that I felt it had and also give me a different look completely.
Wearing a wig is a bit like taking on a new persona; like being an actress.
Who was this lady?
A vintage vixen or a sultry spy?
A lady of the Manor or a lady of the night?
The idea of taking on a character is one that appeals to me. Having an alter-ego or two seems great fun and what better way to do that than with wigs and ‘costumes’
Now don’t get me wrong. This dress is not a costume, it is a simple yet very sophisticated garment and I would probably wear this for a classy New Years Eve Soiree.
Priced at just £32.49 it is a bargain given the quality of the material and the design.

It makes this dress even more sublime and value for money!
After taking these photographs I actually had the chance to wear this stunning dress to the theatre. Pairing it up with my vintage fur, lucite bag and jewellery it was a perfect choice.
If you are looking for a stunning dress, full of elegance and style, then this is a fantastic choice and would suit most occasions.
The perfect (not so) Little Black Dress.
Till next time
